Job Title:
Horticulture Technician I - Conservatory & Greenhouse Role Summary We are seeking a motivated Horticulture Technician to help maintain and support diverse plant collections within a highly visible indoor conservatory environment and associated greenhouse operations. This position blends hands-on plant care with collaboration on displays, conservation efforts, and educational engagement, all while ensuring exceptional plant health and presentation standards. Primary Duties Carry out daily plant care activities across indoor botanical spaces, greenhouse environments, and surrounding landscapes, including watering, pruning, transplanting, propagation, and pest management Maintain specialized plant systems such as terrariums, aquascapes, and mixed-environment displays Hand-water and monitor plant health across large planted areas, ensuring consistent quality and appearance Transport plants, supplies, and materials between locations using company vehicles as needed Support installation of new plant displays, living walls, and seasonal enhancements Assist with plant sourcing and inventory management in alignment with collection guidelines Collaborate with team members on horticultural projects and ongoing plant care initiatives Interact with visitors, staff, and partners by sharing knowledge about plants, sustainability, and biophilic design Identify plant health concerns or operational issues and communicate findings to leadership Participate in ongoing training, skill development, and team improvement efforts Required Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in horticulture, botany, plant science, or related field (or equivalent experience) Minimum of 2 years of experience in plant care, greenhouse work, or a similar setting Strong familiarity with routine plant care practices, including pruning, watering, propagation, and maintenance General knowledge of plant health principles, including irrigation practices and pest management strategies (IPM) Ability to maintain consistent attendance and adhere to set schedules Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as part of a rotating schedule Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a team-focused mindset Basic computer proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, or similar tools) Valid driver's license and ability to transport materials between sites Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights, and perform manual labor in varying environmental conditions (heat, humidity, rain) Preferred Qualifications Additional experience (2-4+ years) working with greenhouse production, botanical collections, or interior plant installations Familiarity with vertical gardens or living wall systems Hands-on experience with aquatic or semi-aquatic plant environments Experience with plant propagation and cultivation techniques Background in integrated pest management applications Experience in public-facing environments such as botanical gardens, corporate campuses, or educational spaces Comfort engaging groups through tours, demonstrations, or plant-focused discussions Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain, for greenhouse operations) What We Offer Join a collaborative team dedicated to creating inspiring, plant-centered environments. Work Environment This position is based in a distinctive indoor/outdoor horticultural setting that includes climate-controlled conservatory spaces, greenhouses, and outdoor landscapes. Conditions may vary from warm and humid interiors to outdoor environments affected by weather. The role involves physical activity, including lifting, climbing, and working at elevated heights. Work schedules typically run during daytime hours with rotating weekend and holiday coverage. The position requires regular movement between work areas and occasional operation of equipment used in plant care and material handling. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Seattle, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $38.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
