This leadership role directs cultivation strategy, crop production, environmental management, integrated pest management (IPM), harvest planning, compliance, staffing, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Director of Cultivation ensures the consistent production of high-quality cannabis while maximizing yields, maintaining regulatory compliance, controlling costs, and fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
Key Responsibilities:
Cultivation Operations Lead and manage all aspects of cannabis cultivation from propagation through harvest. Develop and implement cultivation strategies to maximize yield, potency, quality, and consistency. Oversee environmental controls, irrigation systems, fertigation programs, lighting schedules, and cultivation SOPs. Monitor crop health and implement corrective actions as needed. Establish and maintain production schedules to meet inventory and sales demands. Evaluate and introduce new genetics, cultivation techniques, and technologies to improve performance. Team Leadership Train, develop, and manage cultivation managers, supervisors, and cultivation staff. Establish performance expectations, and provide coaching and development opportunities. Foster a culture focused on safety, accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement. Coordinate cross-functional communication with processing, post-harvest, quality assurance, maintenance, and executive leadership teams. Crop Health & IPM Develop and oversee integrated pest management (IPM) programs. Ensure early identification and mitigation of pests, pathogens, and environmental stressors. Monitor plant health metrics and implement preventative cultivation practices. Maintain strict sanitation and biosecurity protocols throughout the facility. Compliance & Quality Assurance Ensure compliance with all state and local cannabis regulations. Maintain accurate cultivation records and inventory tracking within required seed-to-sale systems. Collaborate with compliance and quality teams to support audits and inspections. Ensure all cultivation activities meet internal quality standards and regulatory requirements. Production Planning & Inventory Management Forecast production outputs and manage crop cycles to align with business objectives. Monitor yields, harvest schedules, and inventory levels. Analyze cultivation data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive operational decisions. Develop strategies to improve production efficiency while controlling costs. Facility & Equipment Oversight Ensure proper operation and maintenance of cultivation equipment and environmental systems. Work closely with facilities and maintenance teams to minimize downtime. Participate in facility expansion, buildout, and optimization projects as needed.

Education & Experience:
Extensive experience managing large-scale indoor cannabis cultivation facilities. Strong understanding of plant physiology, nutrient management, irrigation systems, and environmental controls. Experience with commercial cultivation software and seed-to-sale tracking systems. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Knowledge of state cannabis regulations and compliance requirements. Proven leadership and team management skills.
Requirements:
Must be over 21 years of age. Required to obtain Pesticides Applicator License. Must be able to work at least 40 hours a week. Flexible availability to work both days and evenings plus some weekends. Available for on-site operations work Monday-Friday. Work revolves around objectives, projects, and priorities- not hours; must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed. Willingness and ability to undergo cross-training in various roles within the department as required. Prolonged periods of standing, sitting at a desk, and/or working on a computer. Able to stand up to 4 hours at a time. Ability to operate Reach Forklift and pallet jacks. Ability to work in multi-temperature environments, hot or cool. Be able to stand, bend, kneel, squat, and twist for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift 50 lbs. to a minimum height of 5 feet and able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet, with or without mechanical assistance. Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) The Director of Cultivation may be evaluated based on: Yield per square foot Cost per gram produced Harvest success rate Product quality and consistency Cannabinoid and terpene targets Compliance audit results Employee retention and development Pest and disease prevention metrics Production schedule adherence Waste reduction and efficiency improvements Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in cultivation environments with varying temperatures, humidity levels, and lighting conditions. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
