Job Description
Job Overview The Farm & Facility Manager oversees the day-to-day maintenance, production, and operational systems of Working Food's growing spaces. This role supports food production, seed saving, educational gardens, and community engagement by maintaining healthy, functional, and welcoming farm and garden environments. With the support of staff, volunteers, interns, and program participants, the Manager oversees planting, harvesting, greenhouse operations, infrastructure maintenance, compost systems, irrigation, and seasonal farm planning across multiple growing areas totaling less than one acre. We are seeking someone with production farming or agricultural leadership experience who can apply their skills immediately. In this year-long, part-time training position, the Manager will gain a deep understanding of Working Food's programs, participate in planning for our future farm campus, and prepare to assume leadership of expanded growing spaces once we relocate. This position is ideal for someone who is hands-on, systems-minded, and experienced in sustainable growing practices, crop planning, farm maintenance, and outdoor operational management.

Seed and Garden Director Essential Functions Farm & Garden Stewardship Coordinate crop planning, seasonal planting, cultivation, harvest, and maintenance across all the Working Food growing spaces Maintain the production farm that supports CSA distribution and community food donations Maintain the seed gardens that support seed donations and sales Assist with seasonal garden establishment and end-of-season maintenance at five youth garden sites Maintain organized, healthy, and welcoming farm and garden environments Support ecological and sustainable growing practices across all sites Help design, establish, and refine growing spaces for Working Food's planned full-circle farm campus, contributing practical expertise to the development of future farm operations Food Harvest & Distribution Support Coordinate accurate and efficient fulfillment of weekly harvest needs, including CSA shares, community donations, and other produce distribution channels Harvest, wash, and pack produce for CSA distribution and community donations Coordinate with Local Food Connection staff to support smooth food distribution systems Maintain food safety and post-harvest handling standards Greenhouse & Propagation Management Manage greenhouse operations Coordinate propagation and seedling needs for youth gardens, seed gardens, and farm growing spaces Monitor plant health and troubleshoot pest or disease pressure Farm Infrastructure & Facilities Maintenance Maintain irrigation systems, fencing, pathways, tools, equipment, and other farm infrastructure Troubleshoot and complete routine repairs and maintenance projects across current and future growing spaces Establish and maintain a composting system to support all garden spaces as operations expand Coordinate purchasing and organization of farm materials, including mulch, compost, fertilizers, frost cloth, tools, and supplies Support safe, clean, and functional workspaces across all farm and garden areas Team & Organizational Contributions Collaborate with staff, volunteers, interns, and program participants to support farm operations and shared organizational goals Communicate clearly about seasonal priorities, maintenance needs, and operational challenges Participate in team meetings and support ongoing program development Collaborate across program areas to support shared organizational goals Uphold Working Food's commitment to equity, access, and community impact Qualifications 3 years experience in production farming, market gardening, greenhouse operations, CSA management, or related agricultural work Knowledge of sustainable growing practices, crop planning, compost systems, greenhouse propagation, and post-harvest handling Ability to coordinate complex outdoor operations and manage competing priorities Experience using farm tools, equipment, and machinery safely Comfortable troubleshooting infrastructure issues Strong organizational and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively in dynamic outdoor environments While production farming experience is strongly preferred, Working Food is willing to train the right person Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Comfort working outdoors in varied conditions, including heat, cold, rain, uneven terrain, and exposure to insects, snakes, and other wildlife Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and move for extended periods Ability to safely use farm equipment, power tools, lawn equipment, and machinery To Apply Please send a resume and three professional references to jobs@workingfood.org.
