Job Description

About the Position We are a private farm property in Frederick County seeking a dependable, self-directed Part-Time Farm Property Manager to oversee weekend maintenance of our land and facilities. This is a hands-on role with real responsibility: you will serve as the primary point of contact for keeping the property in good operational order, exercising independent judgment on equipment operation, light infrastructure repairs, and grounds maintenance. The core of the role is operating a skid steer with a rotary cutter to maintain two solar farm areas on a regular schedule, along with periodic heavy brush clearing across the broader property. Beyond mowing, you will handle minor repairs to water lines, spigots, and other property infrastructure as needs arise. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, manages their time effectively with minimal oversight, and communicates proactively when issues come up. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled equipment operator or experienced farm hand looking to take on a management-level role with consistent, recurring weekend work. Primary Responsibilities Manage and execute a recurring mowing and brush management schedule for the property, including two solar farm areas (approximately 14-16 acres combined) requiring twice-monthly maintenance Operate a Case 430 skid steer with rotary cutter/brush hog attachment safely and proficiently, including pre- and post-use equipment checks (fluid levels, blade condition, hydraulic connections) Perform periodic heavy bush hogging of 40-45 acres of pasture and noxious weed areas on a seasonal schedule Maintain safe operating practices around solar panel arrays, including appropriate speed, debris awareness, and panel clearance Independently assess conditions each visit and adjust priorities as needed based on growth, weather, or property conditions Report equipment issues, property concerns, or maintenance needs to the property owner in a timely manner Secondary / As-Needed Responsibilities Perform minor repairs and maintenance on well water lines and outdoor water spigots — including replacing fittings, addressing leaks, and seasonal winterization Handle general grounds upkeep as assigned: light trimming, debris cleanup, fence line maintenance, and similar tasks Coordinate and communicate any repairs beyond your scope to the property owner, with input on appropriate contractors or materials as needed Other miscellaneous property maintenance tasks as they arise throughout the season Required Qualifications Demonstrated, hands-on experience operating a skid steer loader — must be fully comfortable with both machine operation and attachment work Proven ability to work independently and manage your own schedule within the expectations set by the property owner Strong situational judgment — ability to assess what needs attention, prioritize appropriately, and flag issues before they become larger problems Physically capable of sustained outdoor work in varying weather and terrain conditions Consistent weekend availability throughout the growing season (April-October); reduced availability in winter is acceptable Clear and reliable communication with the property owner — responsiveness to texts or calls is expected Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to the property Preferred Qualifications Prior experience operating rotary cutters, brush hogs, or similar heavy mowing attachments on a skid steer Experience working on or around solar farm installations, with awareness of equipment clearance and panel safety Basic plumbing and water line repair skills — well lines, poly pipe, outdoor spigot fittings, and shutoff valves Working knowledge of common noxious weeds in the Maryland/Frederick County area and best management timing Prior experience in a farm management, property management, or lead maintenance role Verifiable references from prior equipment operation, farm, or property maintenance work Work Environment & Conditions All outdoor work on a working farm property — terrain includes flat solar farm ground, uneven pasture, and graded access roads Weekend-only schedule; hours are flexible based on task demands, seasonal growth, and weather conditions All equipment, fuel, and materials for assigned tasks are provided; candidate must supply appropriate work attire, footwear, and personal protective equipment The role carries meaningful autonomy — we expect you to arrive, assess, work, and report back without needing constant direction
Pay:
$22.00 - $28.00 per hour

In person
