Job Description

Job Title:
Produce Farm Manager (starting out as Produce Farm Worker)
Job Overview:
Manage the daily operations involved in the produce section of the farm. It is a 1 acre plot with 40 x 100 rows. The farm is growing and harvesting every month of the year. The farm OWNER will generally be working the markets and delivering the produce. Responsibilities of the
Produce Farm Manager:
Planning out the week's harvest schedule for Tuesday/Saturday deliveries and market on Saturdays and Wednesday morning (May-September) Planning out and executing any climate related tasks (covering rows, closing tunnels, insect netting, etc) Planning out irrigation schedule (we have drip tape and irrigation lines in the 5 tunnels) and executing Seeding/harvesting Transplanting new crops (direct seeding will be done by the farm owner) Annual composting/mulching over the rows Keeping up with necessary weeding Keeping the farm organized and clean especially in the wash and pack station Maintain farm equipment and report when broken so it can be repaired Monitor quality of the farm's crops weekly and give a briefing to the farm owner (will typically involve a beginning of the week and end of the week walk through) Responsibilities of the
Farm Owner:
Applying for funding Creating the crop plan for the year Purchasing and preparing budgets Marketing the farm's products Ensuring compliance Repairing equipment Maintaining the farm while the farm manager is off duty Managing the livestock operation side of the farm Building new infrastructure
Requirements and Skills of Produce Farm Manager:
Strong planning and organization Ability to adapt quickly to changing parameters and schedules Passion for regenerative agriculture Note taking is critical to doing the job profitably Self starter (requires very little micromanaging) Reports to: Farm owners Company description: The farm supplies produce, lamb, and duck to local farmer's market, restaurants, and nonprofits.
Working conditions:
This job requires the employee to work outdoors 90% of the time throughout the year. Most of the farm is covered using caterpillar tunnels which improves the working conditions dramatically.
Salary and benefits:
40 hours/week annually 2 weeks paid vacation Salary starting out $30,000-$35,000 depending on experience Net profit sharing % bonus determined by end of year meeting with farm owner (using a formula) Benefits include flexibility for the Farm Manager to create his/her own schedule while keeping in mind market/delivery schedule needs. The schedule is flexible as long as produce is seeded/harvested in the correct temperature range (i.e. early in the morning/late in the evening on hot days)
