Job Description

Barn Operations Manager Monastery Stables, 1000 Kitchens Lane, Philadelphia Our nonprofit boarding stable is seeking an experienced, dependable Barn Manager to oversee the daily operation of our horse facility. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about equine care, enjoys working with boarders and volunteers, and wants to contribute to a mission-driven organization dedicated to the welfare of horses and the community. Position Summary The Barn Manager is responsible for ensuring exceptional care for horses, maintaining a safe and organized facility, supervising staff and volunteers, and providing excellent service to boarders. This position requires strong leadership, sound judgment, and hands-on experience in horse care and stable operations. Responsibilities Oversee daily feeding, turnout, stall cleaning, and general horse care. Monitor horse health and coordinate veterinary, farrier, and other equine care services. Manage barn staff, volunteers, and work schedules. Maintain clean, organized, and safe barns, arenas, paddocks, fencing, and equipment. Coordinate with boarders to ensure high-quality care and excellent communication. Order and manage inventory of hay, grain, bedding, and stable supplies. Maintain facility maintenance schedules and oversee minor repairs. Ensure compliance with safety standards and animal welfare best practices. Support nonprofit programs, educational events, fundraising activities, and community outreach as needed. Qualifications Minimum of three years of barn management or equivalent equine facility experience. Strong knowledge of horse behavior, nutrition, health, and stable management. Experience supervising employees and volunteers. Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills. Ability to operate tractors, utility vehicles, and basic farm equipment is preferred. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in all seasons.
