Must be willing to relocate within a 60-mile radius of Lebanon, MO Position Summary Cackle Hatchery is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Farm Manager to shadow the current Farm Manager with the long-term goal of transitioning into the full Farm Manager role. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the health, quality, and regulatory compliance of our poultry breeding operations across more than 85 flock farms. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, possess strong leadership skills, and be eager to learn all aspects of our operations through cross-training. Having a strong background working with Poultry is preferred but not required and a strong background in agricultural livestock programs.
Monitor and ensure adherence to State and Federal regulations as well as company policies across 85+ flock owner farms. Address and resolve any complaints or issues in a timely manner. Adhere to Flock Farms calls and answer questions/Concerns in a timely and respectful manner as the main point of contact. Conduct annual Flock Farm meetings and announce annual changes and expectations
Fall Flock Health Program :
Lead a team in conducting comprehensive health testing for disease screening and overall flock condition each fall. Collect, submit, and maintain records of samples sent to the state while keeping detailed company documentation.
Flock Grading & Selection :
Perform hands-on flock grading to evaluate individual birds. Select and retain only the highest-quality breeding stock while humanely culling lower-grade birds prior to testing. Egg Receiving & Egg Management (January-October): Receive, organize, and manage eggs by flock farm, breed type, and feather program. Master proprietary Cackle Hatchery software systems essential for accurate egg placement and future hatches.
Depopulation Support :
Assist with the annual depopulation of flock farms, ensuring proper procedures, accurate record-keeping, and efficient time management for smooth transitions.
Team Leadership :
Directly manage and lead small teams of employees during grading, testing, and other seasonal activities.
Cross-Training & Development :
Actively participate in cross-training across departments to support overall company success and prepare for advancement to Farm Manager. Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Animal Science, Poultry Science , or a related field (preferred). Strong leadership qualities with comfort in managing small teams. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and record-keeping abilities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, seasonal environment.
Physical Demands :
Must be physically able to squat, bend, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 75 lbs. Willingness to travel regularly to farm sites and work a hybrid schedule (facility-based and on-site). Must be willing to relocate within a 60-mile radius of Lebanon, MO. Willingness to work in various climates year round including warm and humid environments, Cold winter climates, and wet and rainy environments. Willingness to work inside poultry barns that can be heavily dusty and hold a large number of poultry in a confined space.
Compensation & Benefits Salary Range :
$50,000 - $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Company-provided equipment : Company vehicle (work restrictions), phone, laptop, and other necessary tools.
