7/23/2026 Job Description and Duties Iron Gate/Fall Creek Hatcheries are looking for a career oriented person to supervise the operation of a complex salmon production hatchery. The selected candidate will supervise one Fish Hatchery Manager I and the operations at these two facilities. Candidate will evaluate employee performance and takes or recommends appropriate action including disciplinary when necessary. Oversee daily work schedules and assignments and monitors work in progress of staff performing the duties of spawning, hatching, rearing of fish, water quality and bio-security programs. Oversees maintenance and repair of vehicles, equipment, buildings, grounds and facility maintenance. Assure safety and training opportunities are provided to staff. Incumbent is responsible for budget and procurement tracking. Please refer to the Duty Statement for specific duties and functions.

CalCareers You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement . Working Conditions Ability to use a computer keyboard several hours a day. Involves sitting, standing, walking and manual labor. Working in extreme weather conditions of heat or snow. Ability to work in remote locations. Attend meetings and work with government agencies, tribes and public. Use of a state-owned vehicle for travel is required between the remote facilities and field sites where public transportation is not readily available. Approximately 5% of the workday will require travel between the two facilities. Work weekends, holidays and unusual hours as assigned, required or necessary in emergencies to keep live fish product alive. Periodic required use of respirators and participation in the Department's respirator protection program; and other required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and certifications. Landlord responsibilities for state housing on site. Must wear a prescribed uniform when engaging with the public, conducting field work, in the office and on-site visits.
