Job Description
Job Summary •This is a notification list posting. You will be contacted when an upcoming vacancy is available for this position.•We are seeking a dynamic and energetic Bluefin Tuna Sampler to join our team and collect valuable fisheries biological samples. In this role, you will gain valuable experience collecting otoliths, dorsal spines, muscle tissue, and gonad samples from both commercial and recreational harvested Bluefin Tuna. These samples will be processed in wet lab conditions and submitted to a NOAA laboratory to support ongoing research. You will also have the opportunity to engage with the fishing public by participating in creel surveys. Enthusiasm in communicating with fishermen is a plus. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to solidify your marine science working experience and leads to additional career advancement opportunities within the Division of Marine Fisheries. Duties Engage with the fishing community to obtain access to Bluefin Tuna landings Coordinate with others to obtain and transport Bluefin Tuna samples safely Build rapport to foster loyalty and encourage repeat collections through excellent customer service Extract and preserve otoliths Dissect and collect gonad samples Conduct angler interviews to collect recreational fishing information Represent the DMF professionally at all times, maintaining a clean and appealing sampling station Requirements Experience with biological sampling Knowledge of fisheries Ability to communicate effectively with anglers Join us as a Bluefin Tuna Sampler and become a vital part of our mission to promote sustainable fisheries through excellent data collection!
