Overview The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in Brunswick, Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of Jersey is seeking a Seasonal Marine Field Worker for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Haskin Shellfish Research Laboratory, Port Norris, Jersey. This position will be at the Haskin Shellfish Research Laboratory. Successful candidates will join the Munroe Lab team and participate in several ongoing projects in the field, lab, and data handling. Among the key duties of this position are the following: Performs biological sample collection and processing (clam, oyster, scallop, fish), animal husbandry, data entry and processing.
Samples from ports and on board fishing or science survey vessels.
Cares for laboratory experiments and live animals.
Cleans/prepares for experiments and field campaigns.
Collects data from archived video files. FLSA Nonexempt
Salary Details $15.92 - $18.00/hourly

Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience High school/vocational school education or equivalent experience. Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to fill out data sheets that require a strong attention to detail.
Computer knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Ability to perform literature review.
Good organization skills. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in biology or related field preferred and an interest in biology, and/or scientific/technical laboratory training or research experience.
Statistical and coding skills a plus. Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment Ability to work in potentially adverse weather conditions.
Ability to lift over 50 lbs.
Ability to work at sea and on board fishing vessels. Special Conditions This position will be at the Haskin Shellfish Research Laboratory Complex which includes the Haskin Shellfish Lab in Port Norris, NJ, the Cape Shore Laboratory in Green Creek, NJ, the Jersey Aquaculture Innovation Center in North Cape May, NJ and the Fisheries Cooperative Center in Cape May, NJ as well as occasional travel to field sites and may include work onboard boats.
