06/18/2026 to 11/15/2026 About the position The Nampa Fish Hatchery is seeking a fisheries bioaide for 5 months from June 2026 to the end of October 2026 or beginning of November starting as soon as possible. This is a full time (40 hours/week) benefited position. Weekend and some holiday work is needed. This position will be a "roving" bioaide based in the Magic Valley and working at the Briggs Creek facility outside of Buhl, ID and also working at American Falls Hatchery. The schedule will be Friday - Sunday at Briggs Creek, and Monday - Tuesday at American Falls Hatchery for cross training opportunities. Dormitory housing will be provided during the weeks worked at Briggs Creek. Dormitory housing will be available at the Magic Valley Hatchery while the incumbent is working at Briggs Creek and in the Magic Valley Region. General Information The Nampa Fish Hatchery is a resident trout rearing facility located on the south end of Nampa. It raises and stocks fish in every region in the state, providing catchable sized rainbow trout for redistribution from McCall, Sandpoint, Mullan, Clearwater and Sawtooth hatcheries. It also raises 30,000 Lahontan Cutthroat which are distributed out in the Owyhee Desert. Briggs Creek is the rental facility for the Nampa Hatchery while under construction for a full hatchery rebuild. The goal of this facility is to amodate overflow of production from Nampa when holding facilities are being worked on. This is to ensure t is no drop in production so catchable requests can be met normally for the benefit of the public. Routine chores will include feeding fish and picking mortality, cleaning and mucking raceways, taking lb counts, and ensuring fish are ready for transport and helping with fish stocking. Incumbents must be able to work a variable schedule under adverse weather conditions, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Qualifications Previous work experience and/or education in Aquaculture, Natural Resources or Biological Science preferred but not mandatory. Candidates with previous fish hatchery experience will be given preference. Will need mechanical experience/skills sufficient to operate machinery, pumps, lawn care equipment and perform general maintenance. Must be able to handle responsibility and work independently. Applicant will be required to work outdoors in and around water. Irregular work schedules are frequent; weekend, holiday and evening work will be likely. Applicant must possess a valid driver's license and be able to read, write andpute simple math. Responsibilities Incumbent must be able to perform routine fish rearing duties at a large trout fish hatchery. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: weighing fish feed and feeding fish; cleaning raceways; maintaining grounds and equipment; crowding and netting fish; loading and unloading trucks; transporting fish. This position involves standing and working in cold water for up to eight hours per shift; lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; and working in extreme weather conditions. Someone who can work independently as well as on a team is a must.
