$16 per hour The Gallery Attendant serves as a frontline ambassador for the museum, creating a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for visitors, staff, volunteers, collections, and facilities. Reporting directly to the Security Manager, this position combines visitor service, gallery monitoring, access control, and basic security responsibilities. Gallery Attendants provide coverage at the museum's public entrances, conduct regular patrols of exhibition galleries and public spaces, assist with visitor inquiries, and support daily security operations. The position also includes cross-training in the museum's security control room to provide relief coverage during breaks and other operational needs. The Gallery Attendant plays a critical role in protecting the museum's collections while ensuring every guest enjoys an exceptional visitor experience.

The Gallery Attendant serves as a frontline ambassador for the museum, creating a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for visitors, staff, volunteers, collections, and facilities. Reporting directly to the Security Manager, this position combines visitor service, gallery monitoring, access control, and basic security responsibilities. Gallery Attendants provide coverage at the museum's public entrances, conduct regular patrols of exhibition galleries and public spaces, assist with visitor inquiries, and support daily security operations. The position also includes cross-training in the museum's security control room to provide relief coverage during breaks and other operational needs. The Gallery Attendant plays a critical role in protecting the museum's collections while ensuring every guest enjoys an exceptional visitor experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Visitor Services and Entrance Operations Staff the South Main Entrance and Canal Entrance desks during museum operating hours. Welcome visitors and provide directions, wayfinding assistance, and general information about exhibitions, programs, and museum amenities. Monitor visitor entry and exit points to ensure compliance with museum policies and procedures. Assist with visitor questions and resolve routine concerns in a courteous and professional manner. Maintain awareness of visitor flow and communicate operational concerns to supervisors as needed. Support special events, public programs, and facility rentals by assisting guests and monitoring designated areas. Gallery Monitoring and Patrols Conduct regular patrols of first-floor and second-floor galleries and public spaces. Monitor visitor behavior to ensure the protection of artwork, artifacts, exhibitions, and museum property. Enforce museum policies related to photography, food and beverage restrictions, touching objects, and visitor conduct. Observe and report facility concerns, maintenance issues, safety hazards, or unusual activity. Provide a visible and welcoming presence throughout the museum. Respond appropriately to visitor incidents, medical situations, and security concerns. Security Operations Support Assist the Security Manager and Control Room Operator with daily security operations. Monitor access points and ensure authorized access to restricted areas. Complete daily activity logs and incident reports as required. Assist with opening and closing procedures for public and staff areas. Support security coverage during exhibitions, collections movement, deliveries, and special events. Participate in emergency response activities, including evacuations, severe weather procedures, and other incident management protocols. Control Room Cross-Training Complete training on museum security systems and control room procedures. Provide relief coverage for the Control Room Operator during scheduled breaks and meal periods. Monitor security cameras, alarms, access control systems, and radio communications while assigned to the control room. Document incidents and communicate operational issues according to established procedures. Immediately report alarms, emergencies, or unusual activity to appropriate personnel. Training and Compliance Participate in required safety, security, customer service, and emergency response training. Maintain familiarity with museum policies, standard operating procedures, and emergency protocols. Support a culture of safety, professionalism, accountability, and hospitality. Qualifications and Work Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in customer service, hospitality, security, visitor services, museums, cultural institutions, or public-facing environments preferred. Experience working with the public in a fast-paced environment preferred. Basic computer proficiency required. Ability to learn security systems, access control systems, radio communications, and control room operations. CPR, AED, and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire. Availability to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and special events as required.

Physical and Work Environment Demands:
The Gallery Attendant position requires frequent standing and walking throughout the museum for extended periods, including regular patrols of galleries, entrances, public spaces, and outdoor areas. The position involves climbing stairs, bending, reaching, and occasional lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Employees must possess sufficient vision and hearing to observe visitor activity, monitor galleries, read security displays, and respond appropriately to emergencies. The role requires regular use of radios, telephones, computers, and security equipment. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to varying temperatures and weather conditions when monitoring entrances or supporting outdoor events. Noise levels are generally moderate but may increase during special events and public programs. Although the position generally follows a standard work week, flexibility is required to accommodate events, meetings, and other activities that may occur outside of regular business hours, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
