Jobs › Boston, MA › Shelter Relief Massachusetts Employer Shelter Relief Boston, MA Apply The Shelter Relief Staff provides essential coverage and a constant supportive presence for families residing at the Project Hope Family Shelter. This is a flexible, as-needed, on call position designed to ensure seamless shelter operations during staff vacancies, vacations, or emergencies. Relief staff work closely with families to maintain a clean, healthy, and safe environment, providing professional stability regardless of the shift worked. Primary Responsibilities ?
Operational Continuity:
Serve as the on-site staff presence, filling in for regular House Managers to ensure all resident needs and safety protocols are met without interruption. ?
Flexible Coverage:
Provide availability for various scenarios, including last-minute emergency coverage, filling in for vacationing staff (multiple consecutive shifts), or covering open holiday shifts. ?
Facility Oversight:
Monitor the shelter for cleanliness and safety; perform security checks (doors, windows, alarms) and track resident ingress/egress. ?
Rule Enforcement:
Ensure residents abide by shelter rules and oversee the completion of daily chores to maintain house order. ?
Administrative Accuracy:
Implement front office procedures, including key control, visitor logs, and incident reporting. ?
Communication & Handoff:
Arrive promptly to receive shift briefings from outgoing staff and provide comprehensive updates to the incoming team to ensure no lapse in care. ?
Crisis Response:
Respond to house crises quickly and calmly, utilizing backup from the Assistant Shelter Director or Operations Manager as needed. Position Requirements ?
Education:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. ?
Experience:
Previous experience in human services or shelter environments. ?
Adaptability:
Ability to step into different shifts (Morning, Evening, or Overnight) and quickly grasp the specific needs of the current resident population. ?
Soft Skills:
Demonstrated compassion for families experiencing homelessness and the ability to set fair, supportive boundaries. ?
Professionalism:
Maintenance of strict confidentiality and a professional demeanor, even during high-stress or \"on-call\" situations.
Technical Literacy:
? Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to maintain accurate electronic and paper logs. ?
Languages:
Bilingual in Spanish, Cape Verdean Creole, and English is highly preferred. Physical Demands & Conditions ?
Availability:
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.
