JOB SUMMARY
Assure consistent product Safety and Quality by testing, measuring and verifying raw materials. Performance of procedures that comply with stated corporate mission and strategic plan, corporate policies, and customer product specifications.
Requirements:
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Color, Sizing and grade evaluation of fresh perishable produce Calibrations on weight scales, thermometers and all applicable testing tools or detectors G.M.P. monitoring of operation to assure food safe environment Color code enforcement; sanitation, organics handling, allergen control Hold and release program Rework Program Shelf-life evaluation and sensory testing as required Paperwork, filing, notifications and data entry for Team site/Quality System Other duties as required SKILLS Good communication skills, including basic written and spoken English, to ensure understanding of safety procedures and documentation Basic computer skills
Microsoft Office:
Excel, Word A working knowledge of English and basic math Ability to collaborate with management
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a fresh produce distribution and warehouse environment. Regular exposure to refrigerated areas and temperatures of 45°F or below. Exposure to fresh produce odors and product fumes, including onions, peppers, and other vegetables. Exposure to food-grade sanitation chemicals, including chlorine and related cleaning agents. Frequent interaction with raw agricultural products and perishable inventory. Requires adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety, sanitation, organic handling, allergen control, and company quality standards. May require travel to external inspection locations, farms, suppliers, or distribution facilities as needed. Overtime, weekend, holiday, and extended-hour work may be required based on operational demands.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout warehouse, dock, cooler, and inspection areas for extended periods. Ability to sit periodically while completing documentation, data entry, and reporting tasks. Frequent use of hands and fingers for handling produce, operating testing equipment, writing, and computer work. Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and climbing as part of inspection and sampling activities. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing 5 to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Ability to safely use cutting tools and utensils, including knives and peelers, during product inspections and evaluations. Ability to perform visual inspections involving color, size, grade, defects, and overall product quality. Ability to distinguish colors and identify product variances for quality evaluation purposes. Ability to work safely in cold environments and around warehouse equipment and moving product. Ability to communicate effectively and maintain accurate records, reports, and electronic documentation.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Minimum High School education / G.E.D. preferred or applicable certification Understanding of Produce Standards, and or basic produce experience preferred Must be able to drive to outside locations for inspections; required for dock staff
