What You'll Do :
As an Asphalt Plant Inspector, you'll represent the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and ensure the quality of asphalt for FDOT projects. You'll spend most of your time in the asphalt supplier's lab, performing tests like sampling, temperature measurements, and density tests. The inspector performs various lab tests on the produced asphalt including sampling from the top of a loaded dump truck, temperature measurements, asphalt extractions, gradations, density tests and others. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working independently, takes pride in their work, and is self-motivated.
What You Need:
High School Diploma Valid Florida Driver's License with a clear driving record. Able to drive 3-hour periods of time. Ability to move asphalt samples and lab supplies (buckets weigh up to 50 lbs) Ability to safely operate equipment, ovens and handle hot materials. Ability to work in a hot environment. For occasional site visits, ability to walk outdoors on uneven terrain and work safely in active plant or construction environments that may include loud noises, weather conditions, moving vehicles, heavy equipment, and typical construction hazards, including recognizing and responding appropriately to safety signals and procedures. Ability to review documents on a standard computer screen. Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, ear plugs, and safety glasses. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint) and ability to spend time sitting in front of a laptop entering data and identifying colored flags. Good communication skills for daily interactions with FDOT Ability to work mainly night shifts
