As a Sanitarian 4, you'll serve as a key regulatory and public health professional responsible for inspections, investigations, plan reviews, and compliance activities involving food safety, commercial body art facilities, tanning facilities, water vending units, and consumer protection programs. Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarian's license plus one of the following: Three years of experience as a sanitarian; OR A master's degree in public health, food science, dairy science, environmental or sanitary science, or one of the physical or biological sciences plus two years of experience as a sanitarian.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here . Job Duties:
Food and Drug Inspection -Position is responsible for managing and supervising all aspects and activities of the Food and Drug Program in assigned regions. Position also inspects food, drug, and cosmetic manufacturers, and wholesale distributors to ensure compliance with the Sanitary Code according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Good Warehousing Practices (GWPs). Incumbent inspects UV tanning facilities and Commercial Body Art (CBA) facilities to ensure site and procedural compliance with LAC Title 51. Conducts complaint investigations as assigned. Federal Inspection Program (FIP)-Inspects food manufacturers and distributors and commercial seafood establishments as required by the Federal Inspection Program (FIP) Contract. Position serves as a FIP inspection auditor in order to meet the requirements of the US FDA FIP
contract. Plans and Label Review -Reviews the plans for new Food and Drug Program/Milk and Dairy Program establishments within the assigned parishes. Ensure that proposed new facilities are compliant with LAC Title 51 requirements regarding design and construction of facilities, staff training, and testing of regulated products. Position reviews product labeling to assure compliance with the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Law and the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act of 1994, specifically targeting misbranded or adulterated products. Enforcement/Research activities -Position is responsible for drafting enforcement letters and compliance orders for noncompliant firms. Position independently seizes, oversees and witnesses destruction of adulterated, misbranded or otherwise contaminated products regulated by the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Law. Incumbent collects samples of regulated products for state laboratory analysis to determine possible adulteration or contamination, which could be harmful to consumers. Emergency Response / Recall Activities -Participates in emergency response activities associated with natural and man-made disasters. Perform related work as assigned by supervisor. Position is responsible for independently investigating all complaints within assigned area and documenting findings. Position-Specific Details:
