Jog Road, WPB 36005 This position is an independent, specialized, and labor-intensive role working in the management and maintenance of the Environmental Resources Management Department (ERM) natural areas. ERM's Natural Areas Program welcomes more than 600,000 visitors each year, and every one of those experiences begins with the maintenance work carried out by our Land Management Assistants. This work includes maintaining public-use facilities such as parking lots, kiosks, hiking and equestrian trails, boardwalks, overlooks, and boat docks on ERM natural areas. Responsibilities also include trimming and clearing trails, management roads, and fence lines to ensure safe and accessible public use. The position constructs and maintains fire lines, fence lines, and management roads; performs inspections to identify exotic plant issues; and removes exotic plants from ERM property. Additional duties include assisting with the storage and inventory of parts, materials, supplies, and equipment at County-operated storage facilities. The position drives and operates tractors, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), boats, airboats, herbicide application equipment, and firefighting equipment. This role also supports the Land Management and Monitoring Section and is required to participate in the prescribed burn program, with the goal of protecting native historic landscapes and the experiences that well-maintained trails and public-use infrastructure provide.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires qualified applicants to possess the following: Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of six (6) months of experience in laboring work.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

The selected candidate for this position

MUST:

Obtain a Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) Public Applicator License with certification in Aquatic Pest Control and/or Natural Areas Weed Management within six (6) months of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications include: Experience operating heavy equipment, Experience identifying Florida plant and animal species, Wildland Firefighting and/or Prescribed Burn Certification, Invasive species management, aquatic pest control, or natural areas weed management experience, and Completion of courses/seminars/workshops in Natural Resources/Environmental Studies/Botany/Horticulture, or related field.
