Full-time, temporary Term of employment: 560 hours (~September - December 2026) Pay rate: $17.00 per hour Reports to:
Conservation Stewardship Manager About Us:
The Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF) is hiring two temporary, full-time Field Technicians to support habitat management and restoration on conserved lands throughout the Galveston Bay watershed. This role offers hands-on experience with conservation and restoration work across nearly 22,000 acres of protected land. Technicians will receive training, supervision, and feedback throughout the approximately 14-week term, with a focus on habitat restoration and native plant nursery management. Specific Duties Assist with land conservation and habitat restoration activities in coastal prairie, mixed hardwood forest, and freshwater wetland habitats, including:
    Support Land Conservation and Habitat Restoration:
    Assist with hands-on management activities across coastal prairie, mixed hardwood forest, and freshwater wetland habitats.
      Maintain Properties and Trails:
      Remove invasive species using mechanical methods and targeted herbicide applications; assist with brush clearing, fence and gate repairs, trail maintenance, landscaping, and irrigation upkeep.
        Support Nursery Operations:
        Collect native plant material for propagation and assist with daily operations in prairie and wetland plant nurseries.

        Serve as a crew member during prescribed burns that support habitat management and ecosystem health.
        Qualifications Ideal candidates will have:
        • A strong work ethic and the ability to work independently
        • Prior experience with outdoor field work
        • Ability to work well with partners, staff, and community volunteers
        • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks with limited supervision
        • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel Special Requirements
        • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
        • Experience pulling trailers and operating four-wheel-drive vehicles preferred
        • Ability to work outdoors for up to eight hours in coastal conditions, including dense vegetation, biting insects, inclement weather, and typical Texas summer/fall heat
        • Experience operating small equipment, such as loppers, weed eaters, and other land management tools, preferred
