This position will be located at the Boise, SW Area. Applications will be accepted through 11:59 PM MST on the posting end date. Description To supervise staff in resource management activities; perform related work. Generally, a Lands Resource Supervisor is assigned supervisor work related to Forest Management, Service & Regulatory Forestry, Fire Management or Lands & Waterways Management. Examples of Duties Participates in the staff selection process by interviewing and making hiring decisions and recommendations. Authorized to approve all temporary hiring. Sets priorities and employee objectives, creates work plans and directs activities to ensure all necessary work is completed. Creates employee development plans to accomplish department and employee goals. Evaluates employee performance and guides them by providing feedback and coaching. Program Management and Planning Facilitates the planning, coordination and evaluation of program activities to meet department goals and resource concerns, identify land use opportunities and maximize resource manager efficiency. Establishes direction and sets priorities by reviewing the development and implementation of management plans such as forest improvement project plans, timber sale plans timber sale notices and other program plans. Ensures access to endowment lands by prioritizing needs and acquiring rights-of-way. Reviews and provides technical assistance and guidance to staff on land resource issues related to the timber program, such as silvicultural plans, statistical analyses to determine sales volumes, road engineering, logging engineering, contract and lease administration, hazard management plans, Forest Practices Act rule compliance, etc. Administration Responsibility for the budgeting of annual program operating expenses, temporary personnel costs, maintenance and various projects. Reviews the accuracy of program budget accounting and approves payments. Reviews and approves expenditures within authority and monitor program budget throughout the year Fieldwork is inspected and documents are reviewed for technical requirements, compliance with state and federal laws and fairness in lease/contract administration. Facilitate communications between area staff and bureaus. Public Relations Provides information in response to public, legislative and industry requests. Represents the Department on committees of concern. Works with private landowners, contractors, county government officials and the general public on a case-by-case basis as the specialty warrants.

Minimum Qualifications Experience in:

Preparing and administering contracts including implementation and evaluation of contracts as well as field inspection, compliance and reporting requirements. Interpreting public land surveys with legal descriptions, aerial imagery and topographic and property ownership maps. Using Geographic Information System (GIS) principles and data models. Managing projects including developing and evaluating projects, preparing reports and making recommendations. Making oral presentations and providing technical assistance and program information to management, clients or public groups. Performing financial analyses to determine cost/benefit of project proposals. Interpreting and applying state and federal laws, rules and regulations related to natural resource management activities. Writing technical reports. Desired Qualifications Effective supervisory practices and conflict resolution methods. Forest management principles. Experience writing and reviewing forest management plans. Good knowledge of the Idaho Forest Practices Act and associated administrative rules. Good knowledge of forestry best management practices (BMPs) and forest management principles. Good knowledge of silviculture, dendrology, forest mensuration, forest engineering principles (road design and construction), soil science, and forest harvesting methods. Some knowledge of forest entomology, forest pathology and land survey techniques.
