Job Description

Job Summary Reporting to the PS Principal and Assistant Principals, the Primary School Playground Monitor is responsible for supervision of students on the playground and assisting with other tasks. Daily hours are between 9:30AM-3:15PM - daily 3.75 hours. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Supervise students on the playground with a careful eye toward safe and inclusive play. 2. Maintain an orderly playground environment, enforcing school rules and appropriate consequences while on the playground. 3. Employ a variety of strategies in order to encourage inclusive play. 4. Bring students to the nurse when they are hurt. 5. Report any student issues to teachers as necessary. 6. Communicate in a timely manner about any issues or concerns. Qualifications ? Experience working with children from Preschool to grade 5 in an outdoor academic, after school, or summer program is preferred ? Physical ability to perform required tasks and work outdoors in extreme environmental conditions (heat, cold, inclement weather) ? Collaboration skills ? Effective communicator with children and adults ? Self-motivated, responsible and able to work with minimal supervision ? Ability to speak French and/or Spanish a plus Working Conditions Will be working outside most of the time on the playground. It is often loud. Physical Requirements To perform the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; to exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; to hear and understand speech at reasonable levels, outdoors and on the telephone; to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly, outdoors and on the telephone; to exhibit physical agility to lift up to 35 pounds; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
