Job Description

Join the Nantahala Hiking Club on their Wednesday Work Day on Wednesday, May 27 ! The crew meets in Franklin N.C. at 8:45 a.m . for a safety briefing session and will finish the work day by 5:00 pm. Beginners are always welcome and no experience is necessary. Participants should be prepared to hike 2-6 miles, depending on scheduled work and location. Volunteers will meet in Franklin, plan logistics for the day, then carpool up to one hour to the trailhead to hike into the worksite. Work will include providing essential care to the Trail, which might include: Clearing drains so that erosion doesn't compromise the path. Cutting back brush to improve the hiking experience and the treadway. Refreshing the iconic white blazes to make sure hikers can find their way. Making repairs to trail features like shelters and privies. Maintaining the quality of the trail and its facilities by picking up litter, removing graffiti, or cleaning privies. Making improvements to the trail by adding features like steps or waterbars when needed. Want to learn more about trail work before the work day? Please wear long pants and sturdy boots. Bring a backpack with plenty of water (1-2 liters), lunch and snacks, a warm hat and rain jacket (in case of sudden weather changes), as well as work gloves if you have them. Registration required.
