A Landscaping or Grounds Supervisor supervises the staff that provide landscaping for residences, parks, public gardens, college campuses or building or office park grounds. Supervises work to care for plants and trees, including mowing, trimming and planting, and work to repair driveways, walks, benches or other structures. Oversees equipment maintenance and transportation, and communicates with residential customers.
Full-Time Position Summary Nieves Landscape LLC is seeking an experienced Landscape Supervisor - Municipal Areas to oversee the daily operations and successful performance of a municipal landscape maintenance contract. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for managing landscape crews, maintaining production standards, developing efficient maintenance schedules, communicating professionally with City personnel, and ensuring all contractual landscape maintenance requirements are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working as a landscape contractor or vendor for a city or other municipal agency and will understand the professionalism, documentation, communication, and attention to detail required when managing a public-sector landscape contract. Key Responsibilities Manage the day-to-day operations of an assigned municipal landscape maintenance contract. Supervise, direct, and support landscape maintenance crews. Develop efficient daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal work schedules based on contract requirements and landscape maintenance standards. Monitor production and crew performance to ensure assigned work is completed correctly and on schedule. Develop a strong working knowledge of the assigned contract, including service areas, maintenance specifications, schedules, priorities, and client expectations. Maintain consistent landscape quality throughout all assigned municipal areas. Apply appropriate seasonal landscape practices throughout the year. Identify common plant material and understand proper pruning, trimming, fertilization, planting, and general plant care practices. Communicate and coordinate professionally with City employees and representatives on a regular basis. Respond professionally to client questions, concerns, service requests, and changing priorities. Prepare and send reports, updates, and professional email correspondence to clients and company management. Identify additional work opportunities and assist with preparing extra-work proposals. Inspect assigned areas and proactively identify landscape, irrigation, safety, equipment, or operational issues before they interrupt production. Maintain basic irrigation knowledge and the ability to identify common irrigation problems and needed repairs. Oversee crew safety and ensure employees follow company safety procedures and applicable job-site requirements. Manage and monitor tools, equipment, materials, and inventory required for the contract. Coordinate and report necessary tool, equipment, and vehicle repairs. Ensure trucks, tools, and equipment remain operational so contract workflow is not interrupted. Promptly communicate operational issues, incidents, client concerns, equipment problems, staffing needs, and other important matters to company management. Hold employees accountable for productivity, quality, safety, attendance, and professional conduct. Ensure daily operations remain organized and that contractual responsibilities are consistently completed. Required Qualifications Prior experience working as a contractor or vendor for a city or municipal agency is required. Previous landscape supervisory or management experience. Strong knowledge of commercial landscape maintenance practices and standards. Knowledge of plant material and seasonal landscape maintenance practices. Basic irrigation knowledge and troubleshooting skills. Demonstrated ability to supervise and organize multiple landscape crews. Ability to create efficient production and maintenance schedules. Strong understanding of workplace and landscape safety practices. Professional communication and customer-service skills. Ability to communicate confidently and professionally with City employees, clients, crew members, and company management. Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. Comfortable preparing reports and writing professional client emails. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Spanish-speaking ability is required. Ability to manage multiple priorities while keeping contract operations running efficiently. Dependable, accountable, and able to take ownership of the assigned contract. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of a municipal contract and understand what is happening throughout their assigned service area. The successful supervisor will know the contract, understand the client's expectations, anticipate seasonal maintenance needs, organize crews efficiently, identify problems before they affect production, and maintain professional communication with both City personnel and company management. The supervisor should be comfortable making day-to-day operational decisions while knowing when an issue needs to be reported or escalated to the company.
