Summary:
Sun State Nursery & Landscaping is seeking an experienced Commercial Landscape Maintenance Crew Leader to lead a five-person maintenance crew servicing commercial properties throughout the Jacksonville area. The Crew Leader is responsible for directing the daily activities of the crew, maintaining Sun State's quality standards, training team members, and ensuring each property is maintained efficiently and professionally. The Crew Leader's primary field responsibilities will focus on quality control, weed control, and landscape detail work, while assisting the crew with other maintenance activities when needed. Responsibilities Lead and supervise a five-person commercial landscape maintenance crew. Maintain Sun State's quality standards across all assigned commercial properties. Organize daily work and provide clear direction to crew members. Train crew members in the safe and proper operation of commercial landscape equipment, including 36" to 72" commercial mowers, string trimmers, edgers, blowers, hedge trimmers, and other maintenance equipment. Take primary responsibility for landscape bed weed control and property detail work. Apply herbicides using a backpack sprayer for landscape bed weed control in accordance with company procedures and applicable requirements. Perform and oversee proper pruning of shrubs and small ornamental trees. Continuously inspect the crew's work and correct quality issues before leaving the property. Assist crew members with mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, and other maintenance activities when needed to complete the property efficiently. Identify common turf types, shrubs, trees, and landscape plants found in the Jacksonville/Northeast Florida market. Identify landscape issues and communicate irrigation, plant health, turf, equipment, and other service needs to the appropriate internal managers and support staff. Maintain an organized, professional, and clean truck and equipment. Perform routine equipment inspections and communicate preventative maintenance and repair needs to the company mechanic. Accurately record crew time and job information using the company's mobile timekeeping system. Follow and enforce company safety policies and proper equipment operating procedures. Lead the crew with integrity, fairness, accountability, and respect, while maintaining high expectations for productivity and quality. Experience & Qualifications 2-5 years of experience leading a commercial landscape maintenance crew. Experience supervising and directing a landscape maintenance crew of approximately five employees. Strong knowledge of commercial landscape maintenance equipment and the ability to train others in its safe and efficient operation. Experience with backpack herbicide applications for landscape bed weed control. Experience properly pruning shrubs and small ornamental trees. Basic knowledge of common Northeast Florida turf types and landscape plant material preferred. Strong attention to detail and the ability to recognize and correct landscape quality issues. Ability to effectively lead, train, and hold crew members accountable for their work. Comfortable communicating with operations managers, mechanics, irrigation personnel, and other company support staff. Experience using a mobile timekeeping or workforce management application is a plus. Dependable, organized, and able to manage people and daily responsibilities with limited supervision. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required. Work Schedule This is a full-time, year-round position. Work schedules vary seasonally and may consist of either five 8-hour days or four 10-hour days, depending on the time of year and operational needs. The position requires working outdoors year-round in the Northeast Florida climate. Physical Requirements & Work Environment The essential functions of this position require the employee, with or without reasonable accommodation, to: Work outdoors for extended periods throughout the year in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, direct sunlight, cold, and rain. Regularly stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive physical activities associated with commercial landscape maintenance. Walk commercial properties and uneven terrain for extended periods. Safely handle and operate landscape maintenance tools and equipment as required. Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Wear required personal protective equipment and follow company safety procedures. Perform landscape detail work, pruning, weed control, and other field activities necessary to complete the essential responsibilities of the position. You will be expected to set the pace and expectations for your team, train employees to perform their jobs safely and correctly, inspect work throughout the property, and address the details that separate an average landscape from a professionally maintained one. The Crew Leader should be willing to step in and work alongside the crew when needed, but the primary responsibility is to lead, train, inspect, and ensure the property meets Sun State's standards before the crew leaves the site.Pay:
