Position Summary:
The Grounds Manager is responsible for ensuring the proper care and maintenance of all College grounds, under the direction of the Director of Facilities. This position conducts routine inspections of grounds and exterior facilities, coordinates and prioritizes work projects, and assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of personnel engaged in grounds maintenance and operations. This role provides comprehensive oversight of multiple campus programs, including snow removal, landscaping, turf management (including fertilizer and weed control programs), annual and perennial flower installations, roadway and parking area maintenance, wooded acreage and nature trails, athletic facilities (including golf greens, softball fields, soccer fields, baseball fields, and tennis courts), and a pond water treatment program. The Grounds Manager serves as the project manager for all grounds-related initiatives, including but not limited to athletic field upgrades, landscape improvements, irrigation systems, and utility-related work. Additionally, this position acts as the primary point of contact for all grounds-related vendors and service contractors, including the negotiation and administration of service contracts. The role is responsible for initiating Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for grounds-related equipment and services and providing recommendations to the Director of Facilities. This position also oversees long-term planning efforts, including the development and management of a five-year capital project plan and a five-year capital equipment replacement plan and inventory. The individual in this role is expected to develop proficiency in operating all grounds-related equipment and to perform, or coordinate with qualified contractors to perform, mechanical repairs, welding, and equipment fabrication as needed. Additionally, this position is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising temporary (student) employees each semester, ensuring they are properly trained to safely operate equipment and perform assigned grounds maintenance tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING
: Supervise, guide and direct personnel to maintain campus grounds and landscaping, proper organization of work, implementation of new programs and training while maintaining good working relations between employees following the union/management agreement. Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of grounds in order to initiate work orders for needed grounds maintenance. Review the amount and quality of work performed. Serves as a working supervisor by actively participating in job site tasks while simultaneously overseeing, directing, and supporting assigned personnel. Operate equipment and make mechanical repairs. Backhoe, large snow removal equipment, and other equipment. Replacement of parts, welding, diagnosis of problems, tire repair, etc. Train employees to safely operate equipment and perform maintenance duties. Required Qualifications Associate degree or equivalent knowledge and skills. Major(s) required: Business management, horticulture, landscaping, forestry 3 years to 7 years of position related experience Additional Experiences Considered Application Deadline Position will remain open until filled.
