Job Description

MUST BE A RESIDENT OF OTSEGO COUNTY GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Leads and participates in the maintenance and construction of Village parks and recreational facilities; does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
This is supervisory manual work involving responsibility for proper and efficient construction, maintenance and repair of parks grounds, facilities and equipment. An employee in this class supervises the work of a number of park employees. A park supervisor receives specific instructions as to the kind of work to be done. Work is reviewed in process and upon completion by the administrator. Supervision is exercised over the work of park maintenance crews.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
(Illustrative only) Leads and participates in the care of laws, pathways, shrubbery, etc. and in the removal, trimming, planting and spraying of trees and shrubs; Leads and participates in the seeding of parks and in the repair and maintenance of park buildings and equipment; Supervises the construction of tables, benches, rail fences, flag poles, signs, and lean-tos in recreational areas; Prepares various activity reports. If position is full time individual will also be required to plow snow and sand in a non-CDL required vehicle .
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Good knowledge of park construction and maintenance activities; ability to supervise the work of others; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to keep records and make reports; reliability; physical strength and endurance; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two years full time paid experience in parks and/or recreational facility construction. Possession of a valid Class D or greater NYS Driver's license is required for employment.
