ASSISTANT GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

Exempt Hybrid Remote Work - Not Eligible General Statement of Duties Performs a variety of supervisory and semi-skilled tasks associated with maintenance and operation of the golf course building and grounds; performs related work as required. Classification Summary The primary function of an employee in this class is to perform supervisory, and maintenance duties associated with managing the City golf course. The employee supervises the Golf Maintenance Workers, seasonal workers and may supervise community service workers as required. The position is under the direct supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, although considerable latitude is allowed for independent judgment and initiative. The principal duties of the position are performed in public building and outdoor environments in all weather conditions and include exposure to potentially hazardous equipment and chemicals. Examples of Work (Illustrative Only) Essential Duties and Responsibilities Performs supervisory and maintenance duties on the City's golf course, including but not limited to, site development, construction and maintenance, and customer service functions. Supervises, trains, evaluates, and schedules maintenance workers, volunteers, seasonal employees, and community service workers. Prepares and maintains records, documents, logs, and related operational, use, incident, and maintenance documentation. Monitors use, applies, and maintains reports on fertilizer, herbicide, pesticide, and related material use. Assists in the management of golf course equipment reel sharpening programs Assists with budget preparation and monitoring expenditures for golf course. Assists with staff, training, safety, and in-service sessions. Plans and assists in installation, construction, operation, and maintenance of irrigation systems, buildings, recreational facilities, and related projects. Assists with equipment maintenance and repairs, including researching and recommending new purchases. Responds to public concerns, develops alternative solutions, and initiates action to create change if needed. Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities. Serves on advisory boards and attends committee meetings as necessary. Performs all work duties and activities in accordance City policies, procedures, and safety practices. Other Duties and Responsibilities Performs duties of subordinate workers, as needed. Performs other related duties as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Methods, techniques, philosophy, and objectives of developing and operating a City golf course. Methods, techniques, standard practices, equipment, tools, and objectives of golf course construction and maintenance operations. Methods, techniques, standard practices, equipment, tools, and objectives of building and facility maintenance, including but not limited to, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting. Rules of golf. Public and community relations methods, procedures, and objectives. Customer service policies and techniques. Supervisory skills, employee evaluations and training methods. Federal (OSHA), state, City, and other applicable safety requirements and codes. Ability to: Follow oral and written directions. Operate a variety of light and heavy equipment and tools required for golf course operations and maintenance. Operate a motor vehicle. Play golf. Operate standard office equipment and a personal computer using program applications appropriate to assigned duties. Perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines. Perform multiple tasks simultaneously, including handling interruptions, and return to and complete tasks in a timely manner. Prepare and deliver oral and written reports. Establish and maintain working relationships with the public; other City employees and departments; civic, community, school, and public interest groups; vendors and contractors; and other interested and affected parties. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Acceptable Experience and Training High school diploma or GED required and advanced training in golf course or parks maintenance preferred; and Three (3) years of experience in golf course maintenance required; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work. Special Qualifications Valid driver's license Pesticide Applicator license 2 Year Golf Maintenance Certificate preferred Essential Physical Abilities Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively on the telephone and in person. Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions, and to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written documents and material. Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate a motor vehicle, light and heavy equipment, tools, standard office equipment, including a personal computer, and adjust equipment. Sufficient personal mobility, strength, stamina, and agility, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to perform maintenance duties, stand for long periods of time, lift up to 50 pounds regularly and lift/move 100 pounds occasionally, and work in office and golf course environments.
