A Landscaping or Grounds Supervisor supervises the staff that provide landscaping for residences, parks, public gardens, college campuses or building or office park grounds. Supervises work to care for plants and trees, including mowing, trimming and planting, and work to repair driveways, walks, benches or other structures. Oversees equipment maintenance and transportation, and communicates with residential customers.

Job Description

Manages and coordinates all maintenance activities of the Runyon Sports Complex including, but not limited to, landscaping and grounds maintenance of all sports fields, irrigation systems, and auxiliary areas; maintains irrigation systems, tractor/mowing equipment, grounds, landscaping, bleachers, fencing, and prepares fields for league and tournament play; works closely with Parks and Recreation Division, Runyon Sports Complex Management team, and the Runyon Board.

  • Exercises direct, first-level supervision of positions, employees, operations and activities.
Includes coordinating staff training, assigning and reviewing work; participating in the interview and selection process; making recommendations impacting pay, status, and disciplinary action; evaluating performance independently or in conjunction with a higher level supervisor/manager; approving time off and staff timesheets.
Performs landscaping duties:
mowing, trimming, dirt work, weed and debris removal, and other grounds maintenance. Performs repairs on PVC irrigation pipe. Understands and implements computerized irrigation systems including monitoring/control systems. Implements safety knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to heavy equipment operation, hazards, and other work related precautions. Prepares ground for installation of irrigation line or repairs. Coordinates water schedules, adjustment, and seasonal start up/blow out; installs, maintains, and repairs water systems. Maintains budget, orders, and inventories supplies; independently travels to pick up supplies and materials for Sports Complex, trainings, meetings, and other county activities. Designs and interprets blueprints in order to lay out or locate irrigation valves. Provides oversight on irrigation systems for Runyon Field; assists in training of other employees and provides direction for maintaining irrigation system. Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for the performance of the job. Fills in for other staff as necessary and/or required.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED equivalency r equired Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Management, Irrigation Technology, or Golf Course Management p referred
EXPERIENCE
5 years or more e xperience in grounds maintenance required 1 year or more s upervisory experience required 3 years or more i rrigation experience preferred Experience in sports field maintenance; specifically baseball/softball field maintenance preferred
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION
Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid Colorado Driver's License ( Independently travels throughout Pueblo County to pick up supplies and materials for Runyon Sports Complex, trainings, meetings, and other county activities) required Landscape Industry Certified Technician (LICT) - Exterior, O btained from Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado preferred Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPS) o btained from National Recreation and Parks Association preferred
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must successfully pass background check required
