A Landscaping or Grounds Supervisor supervises the staff that provide landscaping for residences, parks, public gardens, college campuses or building or office park grounds. Supervises work to care for plants and trees, including mowing, trimming and planting, and work to repair driveways, walks, benches or other structures. Oversees equipment maintenance and transportation, and communicates with residential customers.

Job Description

The Grounds Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, care, and overall appearance of outdoor landscapes and grounds. This role ensures that all properties are safe, clean, and aesthetically maintained, while managing staff, equipment, and budgets to meet operational and client expectations.

Staff & Management Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in horticulture, landscape management, or related field preferred 3-5+ years of experience in groundskeeping or landscaping, with supervisory experience preferred Knowledge of plant care, turf management, irrigation systems, and landscaping techniques Ability to operate landscaping equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, etc.) Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Valid driver's license; ability to travel between sites if needed
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions Frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and use of equipment
Preferred Skills:
Experience with commercial or large-scale property maintenance Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus Certification in pesticide application or landscaping (if applicable)
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and coordinate daily grounds maintenance activities, including mowing, trimming, planting, irrigation, and seasonal clean-up Manage and lead groundskeeping staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management Develop and implement landscaping plans to enhance appearance and functionality of outdoor spaces Oversee the application of fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides in compliance with safety and environmental regulations Inspect grounds regularly to identify issues and ensure quality standards are met Maintain irrigation systems and ensure proper water management Manage budgets, track expenses, and order supplies, materials, and equipment Ensure all equipment is properly maintained, serviced, and safely operated Coordinate with clients, property managers, or internal stakeholders to address service needs and expectations Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety policies
