Job Description

Essential Job Functions Plan, organize, and perform groundskeeping work under the general supervision of the Maintenance Manager. Carry out semi-skilled physical work in the maintenance and repair of airport grounds and facilities. Operate a wide range of airport maintenance equipment, including tractors, brush hogs, mowers, weed-eaters, chainsaws, ramp sweepers, snow removal equipment, and light vehicles. Perform basic maintenance on mowing and other equipment (cleaning, blade changes, fueling, greasing, etc.). Maintain airport grounds by mowing, trimming and removing trees, picking up litter, and emptying trash receptacles. Identify and correct safety hazards or promptly report them to a supervisor. Apply proper procedures, techniques, and safe practices for grounds maintenance and equipment operation. Respond to evening, weekend, and holiday emergency calls for service; must be able to work rotating shifts and holidays. Conduct snow and ice removal on runways, taxiways, ramps, and roadways. Monitor the operation of motor equipment, detect issues, and perform preventive maintenance. Requirements Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Must be 18 years of age or older. Experience in grounds maintenance and operation of light to heavy-duty vehicles and equipment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Licenses & Driving Must possess a valid Arkansas driver's license and be insurable to operate airport vehicles and equipment. Employees may not operate an airport vehicle or equipment if: Arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or Their driver's license is revoked, suspended, or not renewed. Any such incident must be reported to the Maintenance Manager immediately. Security Must be able to pass a security background check. The Northwest Arkansas National Airport is a drug-free workplace. This is a safety-sensitive position under Ark. Const. Amend. 98, § 2(25). Marijuana use is prohibited at all times, regardless of location. Physical & Mental Requirements Normal attention and focus required. Ability to stand approximately 80% of the time and sit about 20%. Must be in good physical condition and able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Manual dexterity required for equipment operation, repairs, radio use, and vehicle driving. Must be able to understand and follow oral/written instructions and communicate effectively by radio with coworkers and the air traffic control tower. Requires sufficient vision to read documentation, perform inspections, and safely drive vehicles and equipment. Work Environment Work is performed in shop and outdoor environments with exposure to all weather conditions.
