Position Title:
Bus Driver/Grounds Keeper
QUALIFICATIONS
Hold a current Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Pass a physical from a certified practitioner and clear a background check
Previous school bus driving experience preferred but not required
Previous groundskeeping, mowing, landscaping, or general maintenance experience preferred but not required
Ability to safely operate groundskeeping equipment, including mowers, weed eaters, blowers, hand tools, and other related equipment

The performance responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Come to work each day adequately prepared, both physically and mentally, to perform the following duties:
Operate the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner, including driving at a rate of speed considered safe as dictated by road and weather conditions
Maintain a CDL to cover vehicles owned by the district
Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and special equipment
Ensure that bus video equipment is in working order
Ensure the safety, welfare, and orderly conduct of passengers while on the bus and report any student behavior problems to the Transportation Director or school principal
Maintain a positive attitude and communicate effectively with the Transportation Director, school staff, students, parents, and the motoring public
Maintain a clean, sanitary bus and safe environment for students
Attend all mandatory in-service training programs
Report on time to start route and complete route in a safe and timely manner
Operate the bus route as directed by the Transportation Supervisor and keep to the assigned schedule
Report any bus repairs needed to the Transportation Supervisor
Cell phones are prohibited while operating a school bus
The driver of a school bus shall not operate the school bus until every passenger is seated
Discharge students only at authorized stops. Discharge students only at his/her assigned stop unless notified by the Transportation Supervisor
Transport only authorized students
Will not leave bus while motor is running and will effectively set brake when bus is stopped
Maintain current seating charts, bus roster, route, and bus stop map
Communicate with students and parents regarding the time and location for bus stops
Abide by all Federal and State traffic laws
Report all accidents and complete required reports
Show respect for confidentiality
Provide maximum safety for students during loading and unloading
Require caution at railroad crossings
Prohibit unauthorized material on the vehicle
Perform groundskeeping duties as assigned, including mowing, trimming, edging, weed eating, raking, blowing, and removal of debris from district grounds
Maintain lawns, flower beds, sidewalks, parking areas, playground areas, athletic areas, and other outdoor district spaces in a neat, clean, and safe condition
Operate and care for groundskeeping equipment in a safe and responsible manner
Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of groundskeeping tools and equipment
Assist with seasonal grounds maintenance, including leaf removal, storm cleanup, snow or ice removal, and other weather-related needs as assigned
Report unsafe grounds conditions, equipment issues, or maintenance concerns to the appropriate supervisor
Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment while performing groundskeeping duties
Perform any additional duties within the scope of this position as assigned by the Superintendent, Director of Student Support Services, Transportation Supervisor, and/or Maintenance/Grounds Supervisor
Physical Demands
Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds as needed
Must be able to sit for extended periods while operating a school bus
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, climb, and perform repetitive motions as required for groundskeeping duties
Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Must be able to safely operate school transportation vehicles and groundskeeping equipment
Evaluation Criteria
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board of Education policy on evaluation of Classified Personnel.
