$23-30 per hour Starting date: As soon as possible About Untamed Gardens We are a small landscaping company aiming to utilize the tools of habitat restoration in residential landscape management. We design, install, and maintain landscapes that blur the line between garden and natural area, and that provide functional habitat for local wildlife. A core service we offer is tilling up lawns and replacing them with seeded native meadows. Read more about our work at www.untamedgardens.com . Position Summary Gardener will assist with day-to-day operations installing and maintaining natural plantings. Work sites range from more manicured plantings to seeded meadows that are lightly managed. Work can be physically demanding and/or tedious, requiring physical stamina, repetitive motions and fine motor skills. Work will include but is not limited to: Weeding Planting perennial plugs Planting small shrubs and trees Prepping planting areas by digging up turf and other weeds Loading and unloading trucks and trailers Operating BCS tractor with various implements including tiller, harrow, scissor and flail mowers, hay rake. Selectively cutting meadows using string trimmers. Removing woody invasive plant growth using chain saws, backpack brush cutters, and hand tools. Plant propagation, including seeding plug trays and potting up plants of various sizes Watering as needed Our operation is fully organic—this position involves no application of herbicides or pesticides.
Desired knowledge/experience:
Experience performing manual labor, ideally with plants Basic understanding of ecology Familiarity with native and non-native species Plant identification skills Qualification Requirements Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs Able to stand, bend and squat for at least 6 and up to 8 hours a day Able to work in a variety of weather conditions Flexible and able to adjust to changing plans Interest in native plant communities Notes Previous gardening experience and knowledge of native plants and ecosystems is welcome but not required. On job training in horticulture, plant identification, and equipment operation will be provided. This position can be full or part-time depending on the applicant. This is a seasonal position with the possibility to become a year-round position with the right fit. We are a very small (but growing) team and so accountability, strong communication skills, and reliability are crucial. We strongly value a healthy work/life balance.
