Print Jurupa Unified School DistrictGROUNDS WORKER DEFINITION
Under supervision, to perform general and varied grounds keeping and gardening work; and to do related work as required.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Mows lawns and fields.
- Edges around walks, flower beds, walls, and related grounds areas.
- Trims and prunes shrubs, hedges, and trees.
- Prepares and fertilizes soil and plants lawns, trees, shrubs, hedges, and flowers.
- Sprays landscaped areas with insecticides and herbicides.
- Hoes weeds and rakes lawns.
- Operates power lawn mowers, power edgers, and a variety of attachments and hand grounds equipment or tools.
- Services and makes minor repairs to equipment.
- Sharpens lawnmowers.
- Assists in the preparation, lining, marking, and dragging of athletic fields, tracks or related areas.
- Sweeps and picks up paper from walks and driveways.
- Hauls refuse to the dump.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Waters various grounds areas by hand or by operating the sprinkler systems.
- May operate sweeper truck, small dump trucks, tractor with attachments, and wood chipper.
- Maintains and makes minor repairs to sprinkler systems.
- Assists in moving and arranging bleachers, furniture and equipment for special events.
- Performs other related duties as required.
