Summary:

The Groundsman is responsible for helping with maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient construction site.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist the Electrical Journeyman is the various aspects of line maintenance, repair and construction, (no wiring)
• Prepare and assemble various line apparatus required for particular work being performed,
• Keep work areas clean and organized, including discarding boxes and other materials,
• Pickup scrap wire, boxes, and other discarded materials,
• Communicate with power plant dispatch regarding opening/closing and tagging/un-tagging of circuits while work is being performed,
• Assist with washing and maintaining equipment in proper working order,
• Install line apparatus (no wiring or bucket truck work), digging holes, padding ditches, operating utility vehicles,
• Assist with loading of various materials onto trucks,
• Operate lower controls offline truck and bucket trucks
• Must be able to operate lower controls online truck,
• Verify proper grounding of line truck and bucket truck,
• Prepare pole mount transformers, traffic signals, streetlight arms and assist with installation (groundwork only),
• Assemble conduit and place in trench with concrete when required. No wire splicing is permitted,
• Work in bucket truck to complete necessary tasks,
• Must be knowledgeable with the materials needed and process to strip and terminate underground cables once journeyman determines the cable are not charged,
• Must wear proper attire at all times including

PPE:

safety vests, safety glasses when appropriate, long pants, Steele toed shoes,

• May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
• Additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent,
• Must be able to speak and communicate in English bilingual is a plus,
• Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record,
• Work at various heights above ground for extended periods of time, and can be hazardous due to falls, and/or working on or near energized electric lines and equipment
• Ability to communicate with others and to assimilate and understand information, in a manner consistent with the essential job functions,
• Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic helping others
• Ability to multitask and stay organized different work environments
• Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions,
• Ability to work on smooth or uneven surfaces and under varying climatic conditions,
• Must be safety conscious at all times,
• Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.

Working Conditions:

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds continuously throughout the workday, Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, and twist, throughout the workday, This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces, This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time and the constant use of hands and arms, This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (e.g., glasses, contact lenses), Performing strenuous work for extended periods in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, and other inclement weather conditions, Work may be performed in environments with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and moving equipment. •
