Job description About Us Located in New Castle, IN, HCREMC is a not-for-profit member-owned cooperative focused on providing reliable, safe and cost-competitive electrical service to enhance the lives of our members and the communities we serve. Our co-op services Henry and parts of Fayette, Rush, Madison, Hancock, Delaware, Randolph and Wayne. As a not-for-profit, we do things a bit differently
  • and that's the point.

Groundman is an entry-level position that supports Journeymen Linemen and crews by preparing materials, operating equipment and ensuring safety. You will learn to provide the services needed for the construction, operation and maintenance of our electric distribution system. Perform all types of work involved in the installation, maintenance, operation, removal, rearrangement, and inspection of energized facilities. Comply with safety rules, operational regulations and practices and report unsafe conditions and practices. Learn the Service Area and become familiar with our distribution and transmission system. Read system maps, work orders and staking sheets. Repair equipment as needed. Inspect lines. Report for duty during outages, as required. We have a few requirements for joining our team:
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED
  • Must have and maintain a valid Indiana driver's license and/or Class A CDL or must be able to obtain a CDL within 6-month probationary period.
  • Must be trainable in CPR and First Aid
  • Must have physical strength and stamina to perform duties required to lifting heavy objects, assist in construction, climbing and digging.
  • Must be willing and able to continue education.
  • Must live within 20 miles (or be willing to relocate) of our Headquarters in New Castle, IN
  • Must pass drug test and background check
  • This position is subject to random drug testing in compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Work Schedule
  • Our normal operational hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.
  • 3:30 p.m.
  • A Groundman may be called in afterhours/weekends/holidays to assist with outages

  • Paid Time Off
  • 24 hours of PTO are given upon hire, with PTO granted for the remainder of the probationary period on a prorated basis after 6 months employment.
  • Holidays
  • We are Closed for Business on 11 holidays throughout the year
  • including New Year's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving and the day after, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.
