Job Description

SERVICE WORKER III
Public Works - CRA MAJOR
FUNCTION
This is semi-skilled manual work involving the daily maintenance and repair of City landscaping, grounds, and facilities within the Community Redevelopment Area (CRA). Work is performed under the supervision of the Public Works Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Responsible for the daily construction, repair and maintenance of City grounds, parks, rights-of-way and other facilities located within the CRA. Responsible for landscape construction and design, plant maintenance, plant identification, watering, planting, removal and installation, fertilization, weed control and pest control. Performs routine inspections within the CRA and performs tasks deemed to be immediately necessary. Coordinates with the Public Works Director for maintenance issues that require additional manpower. Identifies and reports vandalism and safety concerns. Responsible for litter removal and control within the CRA. Performs daily safety inspections and reports major equipment repair needs. Operates various light, heavy and medium duty vehicles and equipment (e.g., flatbed truck, dump truck, backhoe, bulldozer, tractor and front-end loader) and various landscaping equipment (e.g., mower, tractor, edger, weed eater, hedge trimmer, saw). Performs maintenance and minor repair of assigned equipment and tools. Operate City's internal communication (radio) system. Performs other non-essential duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Knowledge of facility maintenance techniques, operation of landscaping equipment and grounds related tools and occupational hazards. Knowledge of plant maintenance and horticulture practices used in landscape installation and grounds maintenance. Ability to operate and maintain various light, medium and heavy duty vehicles, equipment and tools. Ability to manage the City's horticulture landscapes and be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Ability to interpret plans and maps. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely (i.e., verbally and written). Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, vendors, business owners and the general public is essential. Employee must be self-motivated and attentive to details. Graduation from High School or G.E.D. Must have a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (Class "B") or must obtain license within 90 days. Successful candidate must have at least one (1) year experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, horticulture work, horticulture technology and landscape gardening. Related horticulture and landscaping licenses preferred.
WORK SCHEDULE
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Must be able to work nights and weekends, as needed.
SALARY:
$40,383-44,586 Annually
