Job Description Help for Job Description. Opens a new window. Department The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art is located in Sarasota, Florida, and is a department of Florida State University . Responsibilities Performs campus groundskeeping tasks such as edging, raking, mulching, power blowing, light pruning, trimming spent blooms and watering plants. Identifies and removes weeds from flowerbeds, gardens, planting areas, and pathways, ensuring the removal of roots to prevent regrowth. This includes hand weeding and the use of tools like hoes or weed pullers. Transplants plant/flower materials, assists with minor landscape renovations, to include soil excavation and removal. Responsible for debris removal, leaf removal, trash pickup and other tasks to keep grounds clean and presentable. Maintains areas by spreading landscape materials such as shell, bark, or rocks. Performs other duties and projects as assigned that support museum operations and provides general assistance for the Facilities department at the museum as needed. Qualifications Completion of 9th grade or higher Please note that due to the need to use golf carts on The Ringling grounds, applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Valid Florida Driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to hire. Driver's permits are not acceptable. Ability to meet physical requirements as determined by position, including the ability to lift 50 pounds, walk long distances, work from heights, and work in extreme weather conditions. Considerations This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position. This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check . This position is based in Sarasota, FL. Employees are required to wear the standard issue uniform while at work. This role is designated as essential and may be required to work before, during, or after an emergency museum closure. Working Hours Monday - Friday from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM with a half hour meal period. Weekends, evenings, and holidays may be required per the needs of the Ringling.
