Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION
: The nature of the Groundman position involves maintaining the appearance and functional soundness of the schools and facilities grounds within the SCCPSS District. As a Groundman, you will be responsible for maintaining equipment and materials, ensuring adequate stock levels of consumables, and performing various tasks to keep the grounds in good condition.

Required:
High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution Four years of work experience in grounds maintenance.
Preferred:
Associate degree in turf management or related discipline 5 years of experience in commercial and residential grounds maintenance. Hard-working, detail-oriented and organized. Heavy equipment operator experience
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements Required:
Valid Driver's License Preferred:
Valid Commercial Driver's License Landscaper Certification Heavy Equipment Operator Certification Experience, Skill, and Certification:
Grounds Maintenance :
Proficient in weed trimming, hedging, edging, and blowing.
Equipment Operation :
Skilled in operating a zero-turn mower and other necessary equipment.
Tree Maintenance :
Capable of pruning tree limbs and removing trees when necessary.
Ditch Grading :
Experienced in grading ditches to ensure proper water flow.
Worksite Maintenance :
Ability to maintain worksites, ensuring they are free of hazards and debris.
Communication :
Capable of receiving and following instructions and effectively communicating with co-workers.
Safety Awareness :
Able to read and adhere to labels, safety warnings, and guidelines. Always attentive to detail and alert to ensure safety.
Technical Skills :
Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals, as well as all electrical and gas lifts of various sizes.
Licensing :
Must possess a valid Georgia Driver's License.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Utilize the SchoolDude work order system efficiently, ensuring work completion and proper closure of work orders. Collaborate with outside vendors, engineers, contractors, and consultants on district grounds projects. Provide excellent customer service to create a safe and comfortable environment for SCCPSS customers to study, teach, and learn. Conduct regular inspections to identify issues such as erosion, flooding, and hazardous trees. Maintain inventory control of all tools required for grounds maintenance, ensuring they are clean, sharpened, in working order, and stored safely. Keep work areas free of hazards and debris, preparing areas by removing hazardous objects and making on-site preparations such as grading, leveling, and debris removal. Use safety equipment properly to prevent injury or death. Identify, estimate, and prioritize trade-related improvements for district properties. Manage multiple priorities and tasks with frequent interruptions, diffusing and managing volatile and stressful situations. Possess personal computer and keyboarding skills. Operate heavy equipment as needed. Be on call and respond to emergency calls, working overtime as required. Follow all Board of Public Education policies and department procedures. Communicate and work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. Ensure all grounds equipment is cleaned, inspected, and secured after use, identifying and resolving equipment malfunctions. Work with manufacturers or field representatives to procure replacement parts for tools and equipment. Read blueprints and engineering instructions for grounds projects. Actively listen to customer preferences and maintain documentation of system installation and maintenance procedures. Recognize the importance of workplace safety, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, use appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions. Perform other duties as assigned. Lift up to 60lbs and work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.). Pass a drug test and background check. Work Environment Employees in this classification are normally exposed to extreme weather conditions. The employee has limited control over the length of time sitting, standing, or ambulating. There are occasions that require the lifting or pulling of equipment or supplies, as well as bending, stooping, or stretching. There is frequent use of computers, telephones, and other standard office equipment, which includes reading, listening, writing, or speaking. There are physical or sensory demands.
