Anaina Hou Community Park is seeking a dependable Facilities & Botanical Gardens Crew Member to help care for one of Kauaʻi's most unique community destinations. Our 17-acre campus features botanical gardens, and mini golf course integrated throughout the landscape, native and canoe plants, gathering spaces, trails, and community recreation areas. We're looking for someone who enjoys working outdoors and has an appreciation for plants, horticulture, and environmental stewardship. About the Role This position supports the care and enhancement of our botanical gardens while assisting with campus landscaping, irrigation, and light facilities maintenance. You'll work alongside our Facilities team to ensure our gardens remain healthy, attractive, and educational while helping maintain a welcoming environment for our community. What You'll Do Care for botanical collections, ornamental gardens, native landscapes, and tropical plantings Identify, monitor, and maintain plant health through proper pruning, fertilization, watering, and pest management Assist with planting new trees, shrubs, groundcovers, and native species Weed, mulch, edge, and maintain garden beds and landscape areas Help preserve and enhance the educational value of our botanical gardens Maintain lawns, pathways, ponds, irrigation systems, and outdoor features Support the care and presentation of our Mini Golf & Gardens attraction Operate landscape equipment including mowers, trimmers, edgers, hedge trimmers, blowers, and chainsaws Complete daily, weekly, and seasonal grounds maintenance tasks Perform minor facilities repairs and coordinate larger maintenance needs with the Operations Director Monitor campus grounds for safety concerns, irrigation issues, and plant health Assist with campus improvement projects, beautification days, and special events What We're Looking For We're seeking someone reliable, hardworking, and comfortable working independently while also being part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in horticulture, botany, landscaping, arboriculture, conservation, agriculture, or botanical garden operations Knowledge of tropical, native Hawaiian, or ornamental plants Ability to identify common plant species, pests, and plant health concerns Experience with irrigation systems and proper watering practices Experience operating landscape equipment safely
Required Qualifications:
Reliable, dependable, and self-motivated Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high-quality landscapes Comfortable working independently and as part of a team Good judgment and problem-solving skills Reliable transportation to Kīlauea, HI 96754 Ability to pass a background check Schedule Part-Time | Approximately 20 hours per week Typical schedule may include: 8-hour shifts Day shifts Weekdays and weekends as needed Flexibility for occasional evenings, holidays, or special events is appreciated.
