Description:
Position Summary:
The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining safe, attractive, and functional outdoor environments throughout the district. The position performs grounds maintenance, athletic field preparation, snow and ice removal, and assists with maintenance, custodial, and operational support activities as needed. The Groundskeeper works collaboratively with the Facilities Department to ensure district properties support student learning and community use.
Qualifications:
Required 1. High-school diploma or equivalent. 2. Valid Illinois driver's license. 3. Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment safely. 4. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physical labor in various weather conditions. 5. Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and snow events when necessary. Preferred 1. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) 2. Pesticide or turf management certification. 3. Experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, athletic field maintenance, or facilities operations.
Core Responsibilities:
1. Grounds and Landscaping a. Mow, trim, edge, and maintain all district lawns and landscaped areas. b. Maintain athletic fields, playgrounds, parking lots, sidewalks, and outdoor facilities. c. Monitor grounds conditions and identify safety concerns. 2. Athletic Fields and Outdoor Facilities a. Prepare athletic fields for practices, games, and special events. b. Maintain field markings, infields, warning tracks, and spectator areas. c. Assist with setup and teardown 3. Snow and Ice Control a. Perform snow plowing, snow blowing, salting, and ice control operations. b. Respond to weather-related emergencies and off-hour snow events as required. 4. Equipment Operation and Maintenance a. Operate district vehicles, tractors, mowers, utility vehicles, skid steers, and other grounds equipment. b. Perform routine inspections, cleaning and minor maintenance on equipment. c. Report equipment issues requiring repair. d. Maintain clean and clutter-free work spaces, storage areas, and equipment facilities. 5. Facilities Support a. Assist maintenance staff with preventive maintenance, repairs, and special projects. b. Support custodial operations during staffing shortages, emergencies, or special events. c. Assist with furniture moves, deliveries, and facility setup activities. 6. Safety and Compliance a. Follow all district safety procedures and applicable regulations. b. Maintain required certifications and licenses. c. Participate in training programs as assigned. d. Promote a safe working environment for students, staff, and visitors. 7. Additional Responsibilities a. Perform all other duties as assigned to support district operations and priorities Terms of employment: 260 days (twelve months)
