Job Description

Marshall County REMC is seeking a skilled and dedicated Groundman to join our team that will directly report to the Working Foreman(s) under the supervision of the Operations Manager.
About the role:
This role is essential in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of electrical systems, particularly in high-voltage environments. Major responsibilities include assisting the operations team with the construction, operation, replacement and maintenance of electrical distribution lines, structures and equipment while observing safety regulations. The specific objectives for this position include: 1. Provide superior service to Marshall County REMC member-owners while maintaining a professional and courteous workplace. 2. Demonstrate integrity, respect, accountability, and strong work ethic in all interactions. What you'll do:
  • Assist journeyman linemen and apprentices to install, maintain and repair electrical distribution systems, including overhead and underground lines.
  • Operate digger trucks and rigs used for line work at elevated heights.
  • Collaborate with team members on construction sites to ensure adherence to safety protocols by setting up traffic control devices and flagging traffic.
  • Assist journeyman linemen and apprentices to conduct inspections of electrical systems to identify potential hazards or areas for improvement.
  • Work weekly standby rotation to repair and maintain distribution lines after or outside of normal hours of operation.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent with basic computer knowledge/skills.
  • Ability to adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines, including all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Work and communicate effectively with management, employees, members and other personnel.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and safety-first mindset.
  • Positive attitude, integrity, and professionalism in all interactions.
Requirements/Expectations:
  • Must live within 30 minutes (30 miles) of legal driving time from the office.
  • Class A CDL preferred or ability to obtain CDL A within 90 days of hire.
  • Able and willing to work in inclement weather and meet physical job requirements. Reaching and lifting overhead is required.
  • A pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check is required.
  • Heavy work occasionally requiring up to 100lbs of force, lifting/carrying 10-15lbs frequently.
  • Must have indicated the ability to work on own initiative, cooperate with other employees to train and take instruction from supervisors.

We are a 6,200 member-owner distribution electric cooperative, with 19 full-time employees, located in Plymouth, Indiana. Incorporated in 1935, MCREMC has provided safe, affordable and reliable electric to its members for over 85 years. With over 950 miles of energized line, we primarily serve Marshall County and portions of St. Joseph, Elkhart, Kosciusko, Fulton and Starke Counties.
Pay:
From $34.50 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 112.0 per week
