NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS). These experienced professionals provide administrative, scientific, and technical support to the Agricultural Research Service through the Experienced Worker Program (EWP). Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an "at-will" relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

An "Enrollee" is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An "Enrollee" is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions. The enrollee shall not sign federal documents, authorize the use of federal funds, nor initiate or conduct federally funded research projects. The enrollee shall not author articles for publication as a federal employee, nor coordinate scientific research between the Government and private industry. The enrollee shall not present themselves as a Government employee or Government representative at meetings both foreign and domestic or when coordinating federal agencies' areas of research. The enrollee shall not make decisions on federally based research on behalf of Government policy makers, and the enrollee shall not supervise any Government employees. This opportunity applies to applicants legally eligible to work in the United States. •This position will be open until filled.
Duties:
The position is located in the Facilities group, and the individual is responsible for performing the full range of activities involved in the CGAHR Custodial Unit maintaining a campus composed of 6 (six) buildings and ground responsibility over a 6 (six) acre property. The enrollee shall not sign federal documents, authorize the use of federal funds, nor initiate or conduct federally funded research projects. The enrollee shall not author articles for publication as a federal employee, nor coordinate scientific research between the Government and private industry. The enrollee shall not present themselves as a Government employee or Government representative at meetings both foreign and domestic or when coordinating federal agencies' areas of research. The enrollee shall not make decisions on federally based research on behalf of Government policy makers, and the enrollee shall not supervise any Government employees. Keep restrooms in clean, orderly, and sanitary condition. Sweep, scrub and Clean, disinfect, and deodorize lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls. Clean mirrors, sinks, and water fountains. Dust ledges and woodwork. Replace deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap. Note condition of restroom and reports to supervisors broken windows, water leaks, clogged drains, and other conditions requiring maintenance. 40% Clean offices, storerooms, conference rooms, stairways, breakrooms, and other areas as needed. Sweep, dry mop, scrub, wax and polish floors, using brooms, mops, lightweight vacuum cleaners, and lightweight floor scrubbers and buffers. Dust, wax, and polish furniture. Clean door handles and other metal fixtures. Clean walls, windows, and blinds that can be reached without climbing ladders or scaffolds. Remove trash from labs and offices. Set up conference or other spaces for holding events. 30% Maintains lawns using zero-turn mowers. Cleans and maintains garden beds. Has knowledge of using weed eaters, edgers, blowers, and hand tools. Applies weed control chemicals to designated areas to prevent unwanted growth using tank sprayers and hand pumps. Blows off hard surfaces. Operates snow blowers, shovels, salt spreaders, plow trucks, and skid steers. 20% Performs minor maintenance duties, including replacing batteries and bulbs, minor wall repairs, and basic plumbing repairs. Assists maintenance staff as needed. 5% Operates pickup trucks, panel trucks, and forklift. 5%
Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year(s) of experience in cleaning services.
OR HS/GED
Degree Experience required with Windows, MS Word
Other:
Training will be provided as necessary by the agency.
Health and Safety Considerations:
Will need to complete ARS and CGAHR specific safety training. Physical requirements: lifting of items up to 25 lbs., need to be able to kneel and bend to maintain cleanness in areas of center.
