Crewperson 3, Grounds - (13942)
Job Title:
Crewperson 3 - Grounds Maintenance (School Based)
Position Function:
Crewperson 3 is directly responsible to the Building Principal and Supervisor, Grounds Maintenance. Crewperson 3 shall possess exceptional knowledge and demonstrate remarkable skills in the designated trade. They shall have the ability to carry out assignments and perform work of good quality with minimum supervision. They should demonstrate outstanding qualities in efficiency, initiative and dependability when completing various tasks.
Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave. Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator. All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position.
Additional Duties:
Perform other duties and/or responsibilities as assigned by the Building Administrators.
Equipment:
The employee must demonstrate the ability to use various equipment assigned to the job position as needed. Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment. This position requires the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259's guidelines for equipment use.
Travel:
Travel between schools and central offices is required.
Physical and Mental Demands:
Ability to perform all tasks and work the hours required. Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, or snow. Ability to wear proper safety equipment as required while performing the various responsibilities required for this position. Additional demands upon request of Supervisor. Attendance at required meetings and in-services. Daily schedule may fluctuate to accommodate deadlines and delivery of services. Exposure to chemicals, solvents and contaminated trash, grasses, pollens, etc. Frequent lifting 20 to 50 pounds; occasional lifting of 50-100 pounds; lifting of over 100 pounds with assistance. Work in high places, on ladders and/or lifts. Work in standard office and school building environments. Work in wet and dusty conditions. Working overtime on short notice is mandatory.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information. Ability to communicate effectively with a Supervisor when their discretion is needed. Ability to perform as an effective team player. Ability to plan, organize, make decisions and prioritize work to meet the daily demands of the building Basic computer proficiency and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word and Outlook which will be determined and validated by testing. Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality. Exhibits a professional manner and a positive attitude. Must be detailed oriented. Uses good judgment to make decisions on recurring assignments.
Interrelations:
Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors. Will work under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks. Will work with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy. Must exhibit a professional manner and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
Accepts the responsibility for assisting with the training, skill development and supervision of other team members. Assists in maintaining good public relations, being cognizant that a Crewperson 3 represents both the Facilities Division and Wichita Public Schools. Cooperates with other employees and maintains good public relations inside and outside of his/her assignment. Displays willingness to be trained in all phases of the assignment and to increase his/her skills, thus, qualifying for advancement. Possesses a work ethic that is strongly oriented toward both efficiency and customer service. Maintains appropriate licenses and certifications including a valid Kansas driver's license. Possesses superior knowledge of procedures, materials and equipment utilized in the designated area while displaying good workmanship, planning, and leadership. Supports the organizational goals, the mission of the Schools Service Center and the district. Works cooperatively with others and assists in maintaining open lines of communication. Works directly or indirectly under the Supervisor. Maintain and service the equipment and train crew members to do the same. Must properly mix and use the chemicals for weed control and keep accurate records of treatments. Be able to use shovels, rakes, and other manual or powered hand tools. Must be available and knowledgeable in the preparation of sports events. Install sod and reseeds various areas. Install trees and shrubs and remove dead trees and shrubs throughout the district. Must properly mix and use the chemicals for weed control and maintain accurate records of treatment. Maintain good physical condition. Maintain and service the equipment used for maintaining the site and trains crew members to do the same. Mows and edges lawns and operates associated equipment. Plants, trims and removes tree and shrubs. Installs sod and reseeds various areas. Mowing, edging and maintaining planting beds, trees and shrubs. Clearing limbs in the fence lines and areas where damage could occur. Maintaining athletic fields to provide a safe surface for practice and events. Removal of leaves, trash and debris. Must coordinate employees so that work is performed efficiently. Set up of athletic events and maintaining athletic fields as needed for the Athletic Directors. Follows annual tasks relative to grounds maintenance. Strives to improve job skills and efficiency. Perform other services as required by the Building Administrators.
Qualification Profile:
A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is preferred Maintain a valid Kansas driver's license at all times throughout employment
