Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the general care, maintenance, appearance, and upkeep of Caroline County Public Schools' grounds, athletic fields, buildings, and outdoor facilities. The Groundskeeper performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties to ensure school properties are maintained in a safe, clean, attractive, and functional condition.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, facilities maintenance, construction, or a related field preferred.
Pesticide Applicator's License preferred.
Ability to safely and effectively operate groundskeeping and maintenance equipment.
Knowledge of basic landscaping, painting, power washing, general maintenance, and seasonal grounds care practices.
Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with school staff and outside contractors.
Ability to perform physical duties associated with grounds and facility maintenance, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, climbing, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Valid driver's license required, or ability to obtain one if required by the school system.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintains and cares for school athletic fields, including routine upkeep, preparation, and general field maintenance.
Maintains landscaping, lawns, trees, shrubs, flower beds, and other planted areas.
Performs general groundskeeping duties to maintain the appearance of school properties.
Operates power washers and performs power washing of exterior building surfaces, sidewalks, walkways, entrances, and other outdoor areas.
Performs exterior painting and touch-up painting as needed.
Maintains sidewalks, walkways, curbs, and parking lots and identifies areas requiring repair or upgrades.
Installs, maintains, and replaces school and facility signage as needed.
Inspects and maintains fencing, gates, and related outdoor structures.
Inspects and maintains playground areas and equipment and reports safety or maintenance concerns.
Assists with seasonal grounds preparation and maintenance.
Monitors the quality and completion of contracted work and communicates concerns to the Maintenance Coordinator.
Assists with snow and ice removal and other weather-related grounds maintenance.
Maintains appropriate records of grounds maintenance activities and contractor work as assigned.
Follows all applicable safety procedures, school system policies, and proper operating procedures for equipment and materials.
Maintains tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
Responds to maintenance requests and completes assigned work in a timely manner.
Works cooperatively with school administrators, staff, students, contractors, and other Maintenance Department personnel.
During periods when outdoor work is limited, assists with interior touch-up painting, minor building maintenance, facility improvement projects, moving, setup, and other maintenance-related assignments.
Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
Reports to the CCPS Maintenance Coordinator
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
PAY & HOURS
This position is a 12 month position with a minimum of 40 hours per week. Caroline County Board of Education, Support Services Personnel Salary Schedule. Placement on the appropriate salary lane/step will be based on knowledge, experience, skills and training related to this position. The employee will work both indoors and outdoors throughout the year and may be required to work in varying weather conditions. Work hours may occasionally be adjusted due to emergencies, severe weather, athletic events, or other school system needs.
