Church Buildings & Grounds Caretaker

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated, dependable, and detail-oriented Church Buildings & Grounds Caretaker responsible for ensuring our church remains a clean, safe, and inviting environment for services, events, and community activities. This role involves performing a variety of landscaping, maintenance, cleaning, and repair tasks to ensure the property remains welcoming and well-kept. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, practical skills in groundskeeping and maintenance, the ability to operate various tools and equipment and alignment with the vision, mission and core values of Unity of Gaithersburg. Duties Maintain cleanliness of church buildings, including sanctuary, education building, classrooms, offices, and restrooms. Maintain the stock of supplies, such as cleaning products and hospitality items. Be onsite before and after the Sunday service for setup and cleanup. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs (light bulbs, fixtures, doors, etc.). Set up and take down furniture/equipment for services and events.

Care for church grounds:

trimming, leaf removal, snow/ice removal on light snow days as needed. Conduct landscape maintenance such as planting, pruning, tree care, and gardening to enhance visual appeal. Conduct general building maintenance including minor repairs and safety inspections of church facilities. Ensure all groundskeeping activities comply with safety standards and environmental regulations. Proactively monitor buildings/grounds for any issues and resolve them directly or report them if more resources are needed. Skills Previous experience in maintenance, custodial work, or landscaping preferred. Mechanical knowledge combined with experience operating various power tools and hand tools. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Physical stamina for outdoor work in various weather conditions; ability to lift heavy objects and perform manual labor safely. Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
