Job Description

This position performs routine, repetitive, and physically demanding manual labor in all weather conditions. Work involves heavy lifting, operation of equipment, collection of recycling and refuse materials, and maintenance of parks, grounds, trails and open spaces, and City facilities. The employee operates tools, small equipment, and refuse collection vehicles while under supervision. Work is performed under the direction of a Crew Supervisor. Lifts and empties recycling and refuse cans often over 50 lbs. Washes and cleans collection vehicles, tools, and equipment. Maintains parks, trails, and open spaces, keeping them free of litter, debris, and spilled liquids. Patrols and cleans areas around refuse and recycling containers on private property and city streets. Operates collection vehicles or equipment as needed. Transports materials to Montgomery County Transfer Station. Performs general parks and grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, litter removal, planting, pruning, weeding, digging, raking, watering, sweeping, janitorial tasks, and minor equipment repair. Performs seasonal, snow, special, or emergency assignments as required. May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs other related duties as assigned. Education and Experience High school diploma or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in sanitation, heavy manual labor, grounds maintenance, landscaping, or similar work preferred. Licenses and Certifications Valid Class C motor vehicle operator's license preferred. Ability to operate collection vehicles, hand tools, and power equipment safely and efficiently. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public. Sufficient physical strength, endurance, and agility to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
