This role involves maintaining cemetery grounds, assisting with burial preparations, and operating heavy equipment—including a backhoe—in a safe and professional manner. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, physically capable, and committed to preserving the dignity and appearance of the cemetery grounds. Key Responsibilities Operate a backhoe to open and close graves safely and accurately. Perform general grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, landscaping, debris removal, and snow removal as needed. Set and align headstones, markers, and burial vaults. Assist with funeral setup, tent installation, chairs, and site preparation. Inspect, clean, and perform basic maintenance on groundskeeping equipment. Ensure all burial sites meet cemetery standards for depth, alignment, and safety. Maintain clean and orderly storage areas and workspaces. Follow all safety guidelines and local/state regulations. Provide respectful customer service when interacting with families or funeral staff. Qualifications Experience operating a backhoe or similar heavy equipment is preferred. Prior groundskeeping, landscaping, or cemetery experience preferred. Ability to lift 50+ pounds, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and perform physical labor daily. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain a respectful demeanor at all times. Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Work Environment Outdoor environment with exposure to varying weather conditions. Moderate to heavy physical activity.
