JOB TITLE:
GROUNDS KEEPER

JOB SUMMARY
Maintains green spaces by weeding, trimming, and pruning. Removes unwanted or unhealthy plants, shrubs, and trees, as well as downed limbs. Operates hand tools and power equipment, including mowers, leaf-blowers, snowblowers, tillers, backhoes, and tractors. Provides advice to Director and takes direction from them. Employees hired under this job description will assist in all full-time grounds keeping duties. Outside work during inclement weather may be assigned.
MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Michigan driver's license. Pass fingerprint check as required by law. Possess a valid chauffeur's license. Excellent work record. Ability to use all grounds equipment (trucks, tractors, lawn mowers, weed wackers, chainsaws, etc.). Capable of driving a lift truck. Ability to handle minor repairs to equipment, walls, and ceilings. Ability to load and unload trucks when needed. Ability to work above the ground on ladders, power lifts, and/or roof tops. Capable of working with marking paints, lining chalk, different paints, chemicals, etc. Ability to take directions and work well with others employees as well as the public. Ability to work above shoulders. Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds for extended periods. Ability to work in varying conditions, i.e., changing temperatures and weather.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(May include but not be limited to): Minimum of two (2) site-visits per week: Parking lots.
  • Removal of garbage, weeds, catch basin inspections and address any concerns. Marquees
  • Removal of garbage, weeds, mulch/plant maintenance and repairs. Grounds
  • Removal of garbage, unhealthy plants, hedge trimming, tree maintenance, removal of hazards. Entrances
  • Removal of garbage, weeds, mulch/plant maintenance and repairs Playgrounds
  • Removal of garbage, inspection/repairs of equipment, mulch repair, removal of weeds and hazards. Ballfields
  • Removal of weeds and dragged weekly Perform other tasks as directed by the director of support services and/or designee. Attachment(s): Grounds
