$18 GENERAL PURPOSE The Beautification Seasonal Employee is responsible for the aesthetic maintenance and upkeep of downtown Howell and other city-owned areas. This role ensures a positive visitor experience by maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment through dedicated landscaping and horticultural care.

Works under the supervision of the DPW Operations Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform detailed weeding and plant care in downtown flower beds, planters, and city-owned green spaces. Maintain the overall cleanliness and appearance of high-traffic public areas, including litter removal and debris clearing. Water and fertilize ornamental plants and flowers to ensure health and longevity. Conduct routine inspections of designated beautification areas to identify and address maintenance needs. Enforce city policies and safety regulations while performing duties in public spaces. Operate light equipment and hand tools required for horticultural upkeep and minor maintenance. Support and help coordinate city-sponsored floral displays and downtown events. All other duties as assigned.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be at least 18 years of age. Previous experience in landscaping, gardening, or grounds maintenance preferred. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high aesthetic standards. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and interact professionally with the public. Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers and reach with hands and arms to complete maintenance tasks. The employee is frequently required to walk and stand for extended periods on pavement and uneven ground. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch to access flower beds and planters. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employees must be able to differentiate colors to properly maintain floral displays and landscaping designs.
