Job Job Overview:
This is an active, labor intensive job that focuses on the first and lasting impressions of Glensheen estate, a popular destination on the shores of Lake Superior. Summer Gardeners work the majority of time outdoors to assist Glensheen's Head Gardener with keeping the grounds neat and welcoming for daily visitors. Glensheen grounds are open to tours and a variety of activities, including outdoor events. Gardeners will interact with visitors and answer general information questions about the grounds. Employees will gain experience in gardening & lawn care, customer service, independent task management, and teamwork. Please note that this is a seasonal position, with an expected end date of December 1st, 2026. Job Duties Watering, planting, & weeding of garden beds. Maintain annuals, perennials, and vegetable garden beds. Harvests crops, including sorting and cleaning produce. Operate lawn care equipment for mowing and sidewalk clearing. Scan for safety hazards and other possible safety/security risks on the grounds. Trash pickup/removal and similar tasks required to keep the grounds neat and clean. Keep records of information as needed. Interact with visitors on Glensheen's grounds. Basic first aid and first report of injury documentation. Additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver's license Preferred Qualifications At least one year of experience in commercial gardening, grounds maintenance, and/or greenhouse work About the Department Glensheen is the most visited house museum in Minnesota. In addition to the 39-room mansion, the estate includes a carriage house, gardener's cottage, boathouse, and 12 acres on the shores of Lake Superior. Glensheen is considered one of the most complete house museum collections in the country. Tours are offered year-round. Glensheen's event space is available for weddings, corporate gatherings, etc. Signature events are also offered throughout the year. Glensheen Historic Estate is a museum property of the University of Minnesota and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Pay and Benefits Pay Range:
$25.08- $25.50 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
