Job Description

The main objective of this occupation is to assist in the overall ground's maintenance of the college campus and satellite locations. This is a very flexible part time position that is needed at Haywood Community College. This position will work between 20 and 29 hours per week depending on the applicant's availability. This position will primarily focus on the maintenance side of the arboretum and will require the ability to work safely and positively both independently and on a team. Experience with mowing, weed eating, tree trimming, leaf blowing, and manual labor are preferred. Must bring a positive attitude and ambition to accomplish a common goal.

Hiring will be subject to budget availability) Mowing and trimming of assigned areas. Assist with replanting of lawns when necessary Removal of grass clippings, sticks and limbs on roads, sidewalks and lawns, assist with leaf removal. Assist with landscaping projects on campus and satellite locations. Assist with tree care, trimming and removal. Gutter cleaning off ladders/roof. Pick up litter across campus each morning. Empty outside trash cans weekly and replacing liners. Assist with snow removal from sidewalks, steps, stairs, and building entrances. Spread chat and salt on roads and sidewalks as needed. Place caution signs on sidewalks and steps where needed. Assist with maintenance of equipment, to include oil and filter changes, washing off of mowers and mower decks as needed, ATV's and grease mowers when needed. Assist with decorations and greenery for college functions. During winter months, may handle minor facilities maintenance tickets/requests as directed. May be asked to complete maintenance related tasks such as work orders, in house construction work, moving furniture, and helping with event setups. Spread mulch and spray herbicide as needed. Routine housekeeping functions of arboretum facility and greenhouse to include sweeping, etc. Provide holiday decorations for campus buildings such as Christmas trees and greenery. Constructs carpentry features and masonry structures for landscaping projects. Set vector traps to remove small vermin and insects from facilities and grounds. Additional Responsibilities Other duties as assigned Continued educational development in regard to arboretum care.
Knowledge of :

  • Follow written and oral instructions and procedures from supervisors
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Perform a wide variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of facilities.
  • Operate trucks and a variety of power-driven equipment
